Senderos Warns Against PSV Threat

Philippe Senderos has warned his team mates to beware of PSV`s ability to catch teams on the break - much like Arsenal have so famously done over the last decade.

PSV boss Ronald Koeman is quite the tactician and will have identified defending counterattacks as one of Arsenal`s weaknesses. Arsenal are likely to come out all guns blazing after manager Arsene Wenger described an away goal as 'vital`.

But…Wenger knows. The Frenchman is always one step ahead of his opponent, in fact I expect Wenger is quite the Chess player and will be a good 3 moves ahead of his opponent.

It`s clear from Swiss Tony`s comments that Wenger has Koeman`s number as he has the team studying PSV`s players and tactics.

"We have studied them and they have good players up front and in midfield," said mountainous defender. "They play the counterattacks very well so from my point of view as a defender we need to be very aware and concentrated through the whole side. A counterattack could be fatal for us."

Lets hope they are good studiers and remember everything the learnt in class for the game.
Like to see how Arsene's new mix of the classy 'pass-n-move' and our recently acquired 'route one' ability work out in the Champions League. If we can make it work as it has started to do in the PL then, Ladies & Gentlemen, we have a date with Athens in May.
I think Le Boss will stick with the tried and trusted 4-5-1 formation for tonights game. we will have to keep an eye on Farfan and Kone for tonights game though. Kolo will know all about Kone as they are team mates in the Ivory Coast team.
Who do you reckon will play as centrebacks? Will he play Gallas or Senderos beside Toure?
An early goal is so important because Koeman is a bore specialist he will be looking to nick this tie 1-0.
plan is apparently to move away from the 4-5-1 now, as the youngsters have a further year's experoience behind them, so i believe.. »»Arsene Knows««
for goods sake i hope senderos isnt starting ... as i have said so many times before and people ave told me im wrong .... senderos is the new cygan first good season and all down hill since doesnt do anything but give goals away to the oposition
So the old route one is now a central part of your "arsenal"? Looking forward to Drogba and Sheva showing Senderos a thing or two on Sunday!
Sheva could show him what exactly? has he scored against prem opposition in the year 2007?!
The only thing Sheva could show em is a few snaps of his masters yacht after the game.
Uncanny Iceman! we've got some work to do now!
Koeman has a history of doing this. He knocked out Liverpool with Benfica last year with exactly the same performance you saw tonight. Its going to be incredibly difficult to go through now.
losing 1-0 while playing poorly away from home in the CL isn't all doom and gloom.
Last time we played like that in the knockouts we were punished heavily by Bayern. early goal at Ashburton required..................FOR US!
its given us a small mountain to climb, but not impossible by any stretch, I sincerely hope we can find more ideas in the home leg though, I as always will remain positive, it could have been a whole lot worse!
1-0! Doh! It's not good and it's not funny, but it's not a disaster either! One things for sure, we must score first at the Emirates!
outfoxed by koeman....... again.
Its not looking good for the second leg :(
but we all knew that our team loves to do this, they could have won 4-0 if they were themselves and saved us some heart problems but somehow we dont show up when we play smaller teams. we must lift our game for the return and defend like dogs. we should also be fresher for the return. remember the days when we would finish off teams in the first 1/2 hr and entertain for 60 mins?
We lost this game not because PSV overwhelmed us, but because some of our players were not 100% in the match. Some, I think were low on confidence (TH14, Senderos), some i suspect were not completely match fit (Hleb, Gallas) and Fab seemed a bit tired, on the evidence of some of his passes to thin air. If this can be sorted out by the time they come to the Emirates for the return, we should be just fine.
What did Senderos think when he grabbed that ball and got booked? So dissappointing, unnecessary and unprofessional.
lets forget this first leg and get behind the team now. no point in talking how poor they were last night and how things didnt seem right. forget everything. just get behind the team now and give them our full support. we will qualify for the last eight at the emirates, the lads will get the job done..
for once IM10 you were right.. they DID nick it 1-0....
The Tailor
For once the Tailor :(
Don't really believe any arsenal fan can seriously think we are capable of keeping a clean sheet at the emirates. PSV can defend for 89 minutes but like so many teams previously they could snatch a goal at any point, just like they did last night & especially as their best striker will be back. It means we are going to need to score 3 goals in the return fixture & seen as we haven't managed that against koeman's sides previously I don't hold out much hope now.
Ashburton Gooner
There are two things we need to rectify sooner rather than later: 1 - URGENCY. We were playing as if we were 2-0 up when the score was actually 0-0 and when PSV scored, we were playing as if we were still leading by 2-1. Fabregas should have increased the tempo of our game as a lot of balls went to him first whenever we won possession. It was not his fault thought as evidently, Koeman employed 2 or 3 men to distrupt his fluency throughout the game. 2 - FLANK OPTION. We drew and lost too many games this season because we insisted on treading one touch through balls through 2 layers of defence in the opponent's over-congested penalty box. We rarely play cross because we are impotent in the air when we attack. At lease we should try to send low crosses in like what Pires used to do and also Henry who used to drift to the left sometime ago whenever the middle area is crowded. Only Ade tried that last night but there were no more Ljungberg / Pires stalking near the far post when these balls arrived.
It amazes me that Wenger continually whinges about the opposition not "allowing" Arsenal to win. Rather than saying he got the tactics wrong, or that his team didn't play well enough to win it's all about PSV's negative tactics. He always has an excuse and, frankly, it's getting boring. Wonder how he'll explain away Sunday?
Were used to being a goal down at the emirates, i reckon well b able to break them down at home. That Gomez and Alex will b tuff nuts to crack but im sure well b able to get one goal at least. Was good to see Fab gettin forward well last nite, did Henry mean for the Beast to take that free kick or what?
I love Henry, and not here to have a go, but he just seemed uninterested last night! Im starting to see in Henry what I saw in Vieira when he turned down a move to Madrid, and the following season his heart was not in it! I know we are a team and not a one man show, but if the captain can not show any passion how are the rest of the team expected to show some.. Im afraid Toure has more passion in his big toe that Henry has in his whole body.
Im afraid that PSV are in a really strong position one nil up. Its not impossible but koeman came to anfield one nil up with benfica and just slaughtered us on counter attacks. Good luck with it anyways.
Westl you tw*t, didnt you see Arsene's post match interview. he accepted the team lacked a bit of rhythm and sharpness. and all the best for this sunday, that's the only thing you're gonna win this season..
bayern won 3-1 in the first leg two years ago, that was even worse than the current situation, and the lads gave everything but only managed a 1-0 victory. and if we're 1-0 up after 90 mins, that wouldn't be a bad situation. we know we will score goals at home, and with Gallas back, the defence will be even stronger. Eboue will be back too i'm sure, so the defence will be solid, and the lads will score at home, they will put in a better performance at the Grove. no point in saying that Henry didnt look interested or Rosicky anf Cesc looked tired, Hleb looked unfit. they know they are behind in the tie, and they will put in a better show in the return leg and will give everything they can to get the job done, so lets not criticise anyone now, just get behind the team, and make them believe that we've got all the faith and confidence in them to turn the tie around at the Grove..
I still think we'll do it at the Emirates, but knowing the lads they'll give us heart failure before scoring an 89th minute goal to send the game into extra time and then put us through the drama of penalties. Ah well, it's never boring is it?
yeah luckys, we all need to get behind the team now and im sure we will for the 2nd leg. but its also important to figure out where we went wrong, and if that means criticising a couple of players, then so be it.
I think Aliadiere should have came on for Hleb instead of Baptista. He is quicker & more vibrant.
Koeman is a master tactician. He knows our players, his palyers, and prepares them perfectly to cancel out our strengths. Ask Liverpool fans, PSV can be a huge pain in the arse(nal). Our players might not have been as out of sorts as it looked. Let's give PSV credit: they did their job in containing technically better players very well.
I think if Aliadiere has a good game against Chelsea in the CC final on Sunday then he should seriously be considered to start the return leg.
I don't know about start, but i can definately see him coming off as a sub for an offensive mid.
Where does one get information about the number of assists made; Would love to know who actually leads in assists; Rosicky, Cesc, Hleb, Adebayor, Henry?
