Team News: Sunderland vs Arsenal Part II

Arsene Wenger`s Arsenal try to make amends for their disasterous performance in the CL against AC Milan with a trip to Sunderland`s Stadium of Light with a view to reaching the FA Cup quarter finals.

It`s only 7 days since the two sides faced each other with The Gunners squeezing past the finishing post with a last minute winner from the departed (gone back to New York, not snuffed it) Thierry Henry.

This really is last chance saloon. We must win to keep alive any hope of silverware this season, but more importantly for me, to put to bed that hideous 4-0. With games vs Liverpool and Spurs on the horizon, our season really could depend on the next 90 minutes.

The hideous shorts are back again.
Rocky7
Decent effort from Arteta!
Rocky7
Yet another injury :(
Rocky7
They're dropping like flies, they're dropping like flliiiiiieeesss ....
Rocky7
Wheres Gibbs? Did he break in half when he put his seatbelt on for the flight back?
nikolaijns
"Arsenal again creating difficulties for themselves"
Total knobhead
Poor reaction time on the clearance from the free kick. Why do we just fall into these basic errors, time and again?
Naijagunner
Vermaleen had no business passing back to Djourou who is fragile in such situations. Well, they knew they will be in a game tonite so they have to rise up to the occasion.
Naijagunner
and a fine first half indeed. thank you sunderland.
Total knobhead
if arseanal go out of the cup it will be a blessing. then they can focum on getting into the europa league.
asherthesmasher
Another terrible performance so far, it's to be expected these days though.
Rocky7
my hope is that arsenal will win the second half 1 - nil to set up a replay.
Total knobhead
you know, like chelski did earlier
Total knobhead
Ibra: I'd leave Arsenal if I were RVP
Total knobhead
thoughts on keeping RVP, or will he join Cesc and Nasri in fleeing a sinking ship? Or is the sinking a mirage? thoughts? discuss
Total knobhead
seriously. what do you fellows think about your situation with your major players bailing out of a sinking ship. will RVP be next out the door? what's the way to right the ship and get back to winning? I'm curious.
Total knobhead
Our midfield is just to ordinary going forward. We haven't replaced the class of players we have had before, but still try to play the same way. Pass pass pass pass pass pass, but none capable of seeing or making the killer pass often enough. Even Hleb in his current guise could improve this side. For this system to work, Ramsey needs to be as good as Siilva or Mata.
Gooner_Vin
Far too much back passing going here. Dangerous enough with our full strength defence, but with the calamitous centre-back pairing we have now practically suicidal. I'd like to see Arteta and Ramsey carrying the ball more rather than pinging it back automatically.
Wyn Mills
Bergkamp thinks there's no fight in the Gunners these days. Is he right?
Total knobhead
Theo coming on. Has there been a bigger disappointment than Theo in his career? discuss.
Total knobhead
Vermaelen used to have a good leap on him.........
Naijagunner
Fecking ploughed field. No wonder players are turning their ankles. its a disgrace.
Wyn Mills
I didn't see Theo do anything until he went offside.
Total knobhead
Man, RVP looks frustrated. Think there's any chance he'll stay?
Total knobhead
Yes. own goal! We have met the enemy and they are us.
Total knobhead
Second Theo sighting. Offside. That's all he's done since coming on. Two sightings. Two offsides.
Total knobhead
Its official. our midfield is pants.
Wyn Mills
Sessegnon MOtM leaving the pitch now.
Total knobhead
Wyn, you insult pants.
Total knobhead
arsenal should top the stats for most sideways passing. best football, ye right.
asherthesmasher
the worst squad i have seen in ages. wonder what the manager will have to say in their defence
e dubbz
Respect to our away fans. singing their hearts out until the end.
Wyn Mills
bye bye Wenger
keefdayid
Now, it's not looking good at all, with the fixtures to come. Arshavin or Benayoun would have created more danger than Theo did.
Naijagunner
Well, I've tried not to make snarky comments, and I think I succeeded. I made a lot of serious comments, many raising questions, but no one took me up in discussing them. Left me feeling quite lonely here. But, I guess the match must have been a much worse experience for you lot, wherever you've been hiding. Bye. And next week, I'll stick to the Vital Spurs site during the match. At least I'll find some play mates there.
Total knobhead
Theo created two offsides at least. Otherwise not seen.
Total knobhead
36 comments total to now. 18 by me. Sorry you fellows didn't engage me in discussion. bye
Total knobhead
Let the "end of an era" stories begin!

Why would any right thinking man engage a self-confessed knobhead in discussion.
Naijagunner
Why would the king keep a fool around the court? So someone would speak the truth to him. Only a self confessed fool is free to speak the truth to power.
Total knobhead
Can you tell me that anything I said was foolishly wrong? Don't think that pointing to my name shelters you from the truth of what I wrote.
Total knobhead
Stick and stones may break my bones, but calling me my name will not bring me harm.
Total knobhead
we can hear the Boo hoo, and wailing cries of rubbish.... from Holloway Road over in N17 and beyond....... gooners lost again.... never mind....., just have to wait for next year FA cup to win !!!
Block D Spurs
Noting the lack of a comeback from Naijagunner. Disappointed. No play mate here to swap more barbs about my name. And no responses about my more substantive comments. If you think of something, come over to our site.
Total knobhead
Total Knobhead. Discuss.
Wyn Mills
What would you like to discuss, Wyn? My choice of name? Whether RVP will want to leave like Narsi and Cesc did? Whether Theo has been a major disappointment. Whether Wenger's time is at an end at Emirates? Whether the cost of Emirates has been too hight to maintain a budget required to replace players who left. I'm game. Name the topic and kick it off. I'll check back in for the discussion. I'll promise to keep it civil from my end.
Total knobhead
Hahaha, TK, top stuff.
Tottenham Hotcore
Still waiting, Wyn.
Total knobhead
Well knobhead, out of interest when did you realise you were a total knobhead? You check back when you like pal, as you seem to be having a discussion with yourself.
Wyn Mills
As I wrote to Rocky7 when I first logged in today, it's not much fun to talk with your rivals when they're down and out. I'd rather you guys right your ship so that it's more fun to talk with you. Of course, Rocky wrote back that you guys enjoyed kicking us while we were down, but to tell the truth, I'd rather you don't fall too far down as it might suck me into a similar behavior and I don't want to go there. But it's been fun trying to enjoin you in discussion today. Pity that in your time of distress you've all become so tongue tied. Best you've come up with is to remember some years back when we were down or to scoff at my nom de guerre. Boring stuff, to be truthful. I'll check in later to see if you've come up with anything different and more interesting. In the mean time, all the best luck to your club. It will be less fun for me if you fall into utter disgrace instead of merely flirting with it.
Total knobhead
I have been having a discussion with myself since no one here seems ready to talk with me. I keep trying to entice you. As to my name, I was called a total knobhead by a couple of vital commenters who didn't agree with me. I though that name calling was a weak way to make their point, so I took on the name to weaken the appeal of calling me that. Somewhat like a court jester or The Fool being able to speak to the king without being a sycophant so long as he called himself a fool. So I call myself a total knobhead, and then when you call me that you're merely being redundant. Your turn.
Total knobhead
Follow up, Wyn. Calling myself knobhead is a kind of verbal judo in which I use my opponents force against them. Call me a knobhead and you merely acknowledge my role. I am The Fool who can speak without fear of being insulted or sent to the dungeon.
Total knobhead
My name allows me to be like Daniel entering the lion's den.
Total knobhead
Knobhead, I'm not sure you've got anything to discuss that we haven't already, apart from your rather interesting moniker. You're right. Its does get a tad boring. Come back when you've got past the idle rhetoric and have something more meaningful to impart.
Wyn Mills
Years ago, Wyn, the population of N17 was largely Jewish. So those who don't like our club--you know who they are--taunted us by calling us Yids. We embraced the name, and we now are known as the Yid Army. This took the sting out of calling us that. Now if you call me a knobhead you state nothing of interest, as that is who I call myself. Anyway, your lack of willingness, desire, or energy to discuss any of the other issues I mentioned suggests that you merely have despair about them. You seem to share the realization that Wenger's time has past, that the new stadium has left you in an abyss (even though you thought it ensured a rosy future when it was built), that the loss of Nasri and Cesc signals the beginning of a sad era for your club and its supporters, and that you are bound to lose the only true star on your team today--RVP (and he truly appeared totally frustrated today). I guess we may have little to discuss if you've already conceded that the immediate future of Arsenal is bleak while Spurs seem poised for success. My condolences for you. It hurts me too to see an old foe in such a sad state. The best is brought out of both in a rivalry when the two sides both are strong. Your statement that there is nothing to discuss is an admission, it seems, that you are now calling out "uncle" as the fight has gone out of your side and its supporters. I am sorry for this. It all becomes far less fun for me.
