Who Is Your Player of the Season?

Season 2011-12 is now over, certainly as far as Arsenal are concerned. I still haven't made my mind up whether I consider the season to have been any kind of relative success. However, with all of our fixtures fulfilled, it is an apt time to start voting for your Arsenal Player of the Season.

For the first time I can remember, I think the top three candidates are something of a consensus amongst the Arsenal faithful, with places 2 & 3 only showing slight transposition. However, in the interests of democracy, we'll run the exercise anyway!

If you cast your eyes to the bottom right hand corner of the page, you will see a poll asking you to cast your vote for Player of the Season. We'll leave it a few days and the top 3 candidates inthe voting will all get a write up.

So, are you going to go with the obvious choice? 37 goals. Golden Boot winner. PFA Players and Football Writers' Player of the Year and 'one man team' Robin van Persie? Perhaps you think that Mikel Arteta's unfussy brand of freakish passing accuracy and Ken doll hair earns him the award? Or maybe you've become increasingly convinced that Koscielny is the best natural defender Arsenal have had since Sol Campbell?

Maybe your choice is more left field and you think Tomas Rosicky's resurrection is worthy of the ultimate commendation? It's possible that you think Marouane Chamakh, errr......has really nice hair.....

In any case, you get voting and I'll get writing! LD.

Though its bleedingly obvious, cant look beyond RVP for Player of the Season. The only time he played all our league games and hit the 30 league goal mark - both exceptional figures. Laurent Koscielny a worthy runner up. Mikel Arteta's understated but key contribution at number 3 and Alex Song's lion hearted efforts at number 4.

I've gone for Arteta. Simply because the guy was immense and once he got injured, we fell apart. We struggled offensively and defensively. His presence brought order to our game. Of course Robin van Persie goals helped ... but man, Arteta ... He is everything we've been missing all these years.

PS - Great choice of picture!

Arteta without a doubt for me. Defended, attacked, scored and knitted the entire team together. No did as much across the length and bredth of the pitch as he did. Oh and of course, le buffont!

To be honest Fulop played more of a role than Park.

I'll go with the obvious choice simply because, in the past when we could hardly get 20 games out of him (usually less) in one season, he was usually referred to as a player "who will give us 20 goals a season, if fully fit"; he achieved full fitness in one season and what does he do? He scores 37 times! Arteta and Song come a close 2nd and 3rd with Koscielny running Song very close.

LOL @ Niks! So why's Fulop not on that list then people?

Because recent sentiments could sway the votes in his direction, I imagine. Who wants that? ;-)

first season for a while we haven't been moaning about our keeper situation, seems we've overlooked how good wojja has been for us..especially against liverpool away, i'll give him atleast runner up and rvp for being so potent at the other end and again the game at liverpool typified there commitment.

I know what you mean Scotchy mate, but we have him to thank for palming Kaboul's cross onto Crouch's head for our winner at the Etihad back in 2010 which secured our 1st CL qualification. So we're quits now.

I'm gonna go for Mikel Arteta. I have been saying for some years now to my hubby who is an Evertonian, that this player was made for Arsenal so I am absolutely delighted to have been proved right. Quite simply, when Arteta's playing, we are better and that playing role has always been more important to me than any. LOVE him (sorry Theirry:)

RVP by a country mile simply because without his goals we would have been a hell of a lot worse off and probably would not be basking in the fact that next season we have automatic CL football. Just goes to show how dangerous this man can be when he goes injury free for a whole season and validated the theory that he is amongst the best, if not the best, forwards in the world. Special mentions to Arteta and Song who have been excellent in the midfield.

Will-i-am10: Absolute rubbish fella! Aside from the fact that Sagna and Koscielny when playing this season were immense and easily in the top 5 of POTS voting. Maybe just maybe the reason our defence was so poor was because we suffered a catastrophic run of injuries that only seemed to happen to defenders. Jenkinson, Sagna, Merts, Vermalen, Sagna (again), Santos and Gibbs all sat out at least 3 months of the season maybe longer, but don't let that cloud your judgement of our defence. 30% of all goals conceded this season in the league were in the first 5 games of the year when we were crammed with injuries. Coincidence?
