The Rug Stays Under Our Feet As Giroud Signs

There are a few members of Vital Arsenal whose faces have been turning blue as they held their breath in anticipation of the signing of Olivier Giroud.

Rather understandably some Arsenal fans refuse to believe a player is coming to Arsenal until they see the player in the famous red and white (and horrible blue) Gunners shirt, I can`t really blame them after we`ve had the rug pulled out from under our feet so many times at the last minute when we`ve been looking forward to signing a shiny new player.

However the deal is now done, there`s pictures of the French striker in a lovely/rancid (score out which ever you feel is applicable) Arsenal shirt, the manager has spoken of his delight and the player can`t wait to get going.

So that`s two signings down, two rather encouraging singings might I add, let`s hope we don`t rest on our laurels and keep up this assault on the transfer market before the sheiks and oil barons decide to weigh in.

A midfielder and back up goalie to go with the signatures of RvP and Theo would really leave the feeling around the club massively positive going into the new season.

Welcome to Arsenal Olivier.

I tell you what he's a good looking b*****d, looks like my Mrs will have a new favorite player.
Rocky7
Anyone know his shirt number?
Naijagunner
If Park leaves which could be likely, he could get the number 9. Off topic but have a feeling that a bid for M'Vila if it does at all happen will take place towards the end of the transfer window. At that time Rennes will find it difficult to keep a key player who clearly wants out before the start of a new season. Atleast thats what one hopes.
Deltaforce
9 from what I hear.
Sajit
Come on RvP, we know you want to sign.
Sajit
Yeah I think if the mvilla deal does go through, it will be a last minute deal....which opens us up to getting the rug pulled on that one. Just wait and see I guess. On a plus I think the priority in this window was getting in quality strikers.
gunnerman76
I think a central defender as well to what you suggested Rocky
e dubbz
Why do we need an central defender? Koscielny is one of the best in the league. Mertesacker and Vermaelen can battle it out for the spot next to him, and I challenge anyone to find a 4th choice centre back better than Djourou.
Rocky7
Yep I think it's safe to say we are covered at CB, maybe a fullback to cover sagna as I'm not sure about Henderson just yet. A back up keeper and DM and I'm very happy, anything more is a bonus.
gunnerman76
Does anyone feel we maybe need a creative midfielder?
Dberg
I depends on how fit wilshere is. If he is ready for the season then I think between wilshere, arteta and rosicky we are covered. I certainly wouldn't say no to another attack minded midfielder but bearing in mind with the strikers we have just acquired.....if, and I mean if RVP were to stay then he can play in that hole also, not forgetting the ox who can pretty much play anywhere in the attacking third.......and Ramsey. All of a sudden it's getting a bit crowded. All I would say is that if wenger did bring in another attack minded player, then it has to be quality, and someone who will be pushing for a start. We have enough deadwood already.
gunnerman76
when did Jenkinson become Henderson ? :) On that topic, i doubt Conor Henderson has a future at Arsenal.
Sajit
convert yennaris or coquelin to rb permanently. i think they are more reliable than jenkinson as cover for sagna
Joe_@**
wow wonderful signing for you guys, congrats, at least he will help you guys to continue your trophy drought, 7 years and counting
emile heskey spurs
and really koscielny one of the best, lol, what kind of an idiot statement is that, even Titus Bramble 100x better than him
emile heskey spurs
I can only think of Vincent Kompany and Nemanja (sp?) Vidic who are on a par with Koscielny. If you think Titus Bramble (or any Spurs defender) is better than Kos then you've shown your hand as someone who knows nothing about football.
Rocky7
emile has already shown his hand superbly with his alias. What kind of idiot comes on here talking about trophy droughts when the last time his team won the title was when most of us were mere twinkles in our grandparent's eyes. Looks like they'll be replacing one muppet with another as a manager too.
Wyn Mills
My mum was 10 years old the last time Spurs won the league. She retires next Friday.
Rocky7
Go being the operative word...? Realistically do you think these signings are to cover over RvP leaving or are they enough to keep him? I'm sure your bored of this question but I am interested, how many strikers can you keep happy if you keep them all. Finally if RvP goes do you think the replacements will be good enough?
North Upper
I think they were signed to hopefully help convince him to stay but also as a replacement if he were to leave. Personally I think RvP's head has been turned by Nasri and Clichy joining City and instantly winning the PL. There's no way back from here I feel, we could sign Messi and he'd still go. I really hope the new boys are good enough, but coming to a new league .... only time will tell.
Rocky7
I don't know anything about Giroud to be honest but have seen a lot of Podolski. I wantesd Spurs to sign him a few years ago when he chose to go back to Cologne but he seems to have stagnated. Scorer of great goals and misser of great chances if that makes sense... If you wanted to keep RvP though shouldn't you be signing some creative midfielders or wingers? I fear RvP could be off though and not because I want him to but I catually agree with you about his head being turned. Happens all too easily these days and there's no stick to beat them with. Some of them deserve a good beating as well!
North Upper
@ Emille Heskey Spurs (A ridiculous name) Thank you for your irrelevant opinion.
Ned Stark
Its good to see the club getting more than one early signing in. The only addition needed after this is competition for Song in mid field. If RvP chooses to go, then fair enough, I hope he doesn't go to City. But I do think this squad can seriously challenge for the Premiership (perhaps not win it, but put up a serious challenge till March/April next year).
