Asia Tour Squad Announced

Arsene Wenger named a 24 man squad for Arsenal's upcoming tour of Malaysia and China. There were some notable omissions, most pointedly the absence of wantaway skipper Robin van Persie who, the official club line says, will stay home to work on his fitness. Lukas Podoslki, Olivier Giroud, Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny will keep him company.

Bacary Sagna, Jack Wilshere, Tomas Rosicky, Henri Lansbury and Emmanuel Frimpong are still injured. Meanwhile, Aaron Ramsey and Park Chu Young are on international duty at the Olympics. Nicklas Bendtner, Andrey Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci don't travel as all look likely to move. There was room for youngsters Benik Afobe (one of only two strikers travelling), Craig Eastmond, Nico Yennaris, Chuks Aneka, Ignasi Miquel and Kyle Bartley. Thomas Vermaelen will captain the side.

Easy to understand why we can't have Bendtner or even Robin on board. But, where are Squillaci and Arshavin in all of this? Does this mean they are certainly on their way out, seeing that the manager has explained all the other absentees but was silent on these two?

With the new boys staying back along with a fair few first teamers, I hope we there will be time for them to bed in with the rest of the squad to create the required level of bonding at this level. The need to rest players after the exertions of the Euros will certainly affect the impact of most sides at the start of the season.

Credit to Walcott who travelled to Asia despite his ongoing contract extension wrangle with the club. His is a much more professional approach than RvP's.
Deltaforce
The club held RvP back, he didn't refuse to go. It was Wenger's decision to leave him out.
