Arsenal and O2 End Sponsorship Deal

Arsenal and O2 End Sponsorship Deal

Telecomms company 02 will not renew their existing sponsorship deal with Arsenal when it comes to an end on July 31st. 02 first began their partnership with Arsenal when they became shirt sponsors on 2002. Fly Emirates took over in 2006, with 02 settling on a secondary partnership deal as the club's official telecommunications partner. As part of the deal, 02 owned the biggest corporate box at the Emirates stadium until Uzbeki oligarch Alisher Usmanov purchased two boxes and knocked them into one.

Arsenal's shirt sponsorship and kit manufacturing deals are also up for renewal in two summers time. 02's Marketing and Consumer Director Sally Cowdry confirmed the expected decision not to renew the Marketing publication. An Arsenal spokesman likewise confirmed, 'After ten successful years with O2, we have reached a mutual decision not to renew our partnership. We have worked together well over this time and we wish O2 every future success.'

Great. These sponsorship deals ending now enable us to sign newer, more lucrative deals with other companies. We need another source of income to compete with the likes of City and Chelsea. Commercial deals can help us do that. In fact, the sole reason Man United can compete in spending with them is the fact that their commercial outreach is gigantic. We need to adopt some facets of their model to do that ourselves.
