Rosicky Out For 6-8 Weeks

Czech midfielder Tomas Rosicky faces 6-8 weeks on the sidelines having undergone surgery on an achilles injury. Rosicky enjoyed a renaissance campaign last year having been plagued by injuries for the last four or five years, winning himself a place in the starting line up again. However, he finished the campaign with a minor achilles complaint which he exacerbated on international duty for Czech Republic, forcing him to miss their final game and a half of the tournament.

'There was some swelling that we needed to get rid of,' the Arsenal player's agent Pavel Paska was quoted as saying. 'Tomas has already started physio.'

Whilst Arsene Wenger ruled out a move for a defensive or box to box midfielder, he neglected to mention his creative options in the middle of the park. With Ramsey on Olympic duty, Rosicky now injured, Wilshere still out and a move for Santi Cazorla in progress, it would appear Arsenal will look to strengthen in that area of the pitch.

And there in lies our problem. Can we keep Rosicky, Wilshire, Ramsey, Diably and Arteta fit for an entire season? Coq has also twice been badly injured last season. How Wenger believes our midfield is compacted I don't know. And with Song off to the African Cup of Nations I will honestly be surprised if we don't sign at least 2 central midfielders. This is very worrying!!

I'd like to think the timing of this is related to the Santi transfer talk.

Didn't Wenger say a couple of days ago that we don't need to sign any midfielders as long as our boys stay fit? Then within 48 hours we hear of Wilshere and Rosicky .... surely he knew of their progress at the time?

and for 6 to 8 weeks please read a minimum of 12 to god knows how long

In fairness, Wenger said he didn't need to sign defensive or box to box midfielders. He didn't mention attacking midfield and he omitted the likes of Ramsey and Rosicky from his gambit.

Lets hope so LD. But I do think we need another DM tbh.

By the time Song is away to the African cup of Nations, we should have our full compliment of midfielders; Coquelin can fill in for Song and so can Arteta and Diaby. I don't think there is great cause for concern. What we need to work on is how to keep opponents' defenses so busy, they will be 'privileged' to put our midfield under any pressure.

Squad numbers out with some interesting implications. RvP still has 10 and Podolski's is to be announced later. Do I sense a small game of musical chairs?

Sigh!

Such a shame because he was truly awesome the back end of last season. Probably won't make that much of a difference, it's not as though we're going to win anything anyway.

I believe Wenger is still looking at one attacking mid field signing which means that Arteta and Song will combine like they did last season. Either Cazorla or Nuri Sahin (on loan) - both exciting signings in my view.

I don't know much about Sahin and don't know what to expect, honestly. What can you make of the Manager's denial of such a deal for the player?
