The Premiership season is but days away, but it still looks like this week could see some transfer activity at Arsenal. Though Robin van Persie`s future remains unresolved, we wait to see whether Manchester United come in with a renewed bid for the Dutchman. Van Persie played 21 minutes in yesterday`s 4-0 friendly win over Koln and took the captain`s armband. But Wenger remains coy on the prospect of him keeping it, "At the moment, we rotate with van Persie as captain and Vermaelen as assistant. But a decision on that will be made this week."

Meanwhile, the Spanish press are still talking up Barcelona`s interest in Alex Song. Noises have emerged over the last fortnight with the Barcelona players beginning to rattle their gums about the Cameroonian. Spanish paper Sport says Barca have put down a £15m bid this morning. Song`s deal runs until 2015. If he is to depart, that would suggest that Arsenal would follow up on their interest in Nuri Sahin, whom Spanish paper Marca says will leave by the end of the week.

Meanwhile, rumours have emerged that A.C. Milan are offering centre half Philippe Mexes in exchange for Nicklas Bendtner. The Rossineri are still looking to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was sold to PSG last month. According to John Cross of the Mirror, Mikel Silvestre is training with Arsenal whilst he looks for a new club. It also looks very likely that Wigan Athletic will complete the loan signing of Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyachi this week, with Latics keeper Ali Al Habsi revealing a deal was at an advanced stage on his twitter feed.

I think Song is a very good player, but he's definitely started to get the Big I Am about himself recently and I sense he's on that edge where he thinks he's made it and has taken his foot off the gas. His performance yesterday wasn't great and I feel he needs proper competition to his spot. As for RvP, my reading of his body language yesterday was he was going through the motions and he doesn't want to be at AFC any longer. I definitely think he'll be sold and probably to Manure because they always end up over paying in the end and getting their man. I just hope we get a replacement striker though because Chamakh again looked completely low on confidence and I suspect he'll go somewhere on loan.

any news about walcott?
13/08/2012 12:19:00
With a decent replacement for Song not only do I think we'd be ok without him, we'd be better. He's a good player, but far from disciplined and far from vital to our team.

What a shame. To say RvP's praises were being sung from our lips just a few months, I heard he was booed by some sections of the crowd when he came on. He is a great player barring injuries and true he had one full season with us last year, he showed what talent he's got. I think we should respect his decision and not slate him. He's no way bigger than Henry and Cesc and these two left. For Song and RvP, I wish em the best wherever they intend to leave to. But its a fact, they will never find a team like The Arsenal.

Ryo's is a done deal as has been announced officially.

We can get a replacement for Song as his performance of the role he is there for cannot be said to be of 'specialist' standard. He is one of our experienced dressing room characters and will raise his game to suit the opposition (like he did against Yaya Toure and City). The only trouble is the time it would take such a replacement to bed in with the team and the demands of this league. It was clear yesterday that Song's head had been turned by all the comments of the Barca "tapping-up" band. These kids need to learn.

Please no Mexes.. Just get cash for Niklas.. MExes will be yet another Squillaci..
13/08/2012 15:57:00
Getting Park, Bendtner , Squillaci off the books has to be a bigger priority than getting more signings. And keeping Song and Rvp and theo of course.
13/08/2012 16:00:00
I would be careful about reading meanings into RVPs body language based on yesterday's game. Walcott's link with Carzolla was really good so also the Ox and Carzolla, I thought Per was good and the rest of the team. I was nt impressed with Song, expected more from Diaby but nice to see that he is back though.

That was RvP's first game and we must not forget. He will need a couple more games to get into the groove of things, especially as he was (is?) on his way out. Very difficult to concentrate even in training with all the speculations surrounding him.
