The Premiership season is but days away, but it still looks like this week could see some transfer activity at Arsenal. Though Robin van Persie`s future remains unresolved, we wait to see whether Manchester United come in with a renewed bid for the Dutchman. Van Persie played 21 minutes in yesterday`s 4-0 friendly win over Koln and took the captain`s armband. But Wenger remains coy on the prospect of him keeping it, "At the moment, we rotate with van Persie as captain and Vermaelen as assistant. But a decision on that will be made this week."
Meanwhile, the Spanish press are still talking up Barcelona`s interest in Alex Song. Noises have emerged over the last fortnight with the Barcelona players beginning to rattle their gums about the Cameroonian. Spanish paper Sport says Barca have put down a £15m bid this morning. Song`s deal runs until 2015. If he is to depart, that would suggest that Arsenal would follow up on their interest in Nuri Sahin, whom Spanish paper Marca says will leave by the end of the week.
Meanwhile, rumours have emerged that A.C. Milan are offering centre half Philippe Mexes in exchange for Nicklas Bendtner. The Rossineri are still looking to replace Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who was sold to PSG last month. According to John Cross of the Mirror, Mikel Silvestre is training with Arsenal whilst he looks for a new club. It also looks very likely that Wigan Athletic will complete the loan signing of Arsenal youngster Ryo Miyachi this week, with Latics keeper Ali Al Habsi revealing a deal was at an advanced stage on his twitter feed.
