Ramsey Would Play With Shawcross

Ramsey Would Play With Shawcross

Despite Chris Coleman's pretty persistent attempts at publicly cornering his captain (as well as creating even more animosity between Arsenal and Stoke just a week before they play one another), Wales captain Aaron Ramsey has indicated that he would have not object to Ryan Shawcross being called up for the Welsh squad.

Last month Coleman decided, bizarrely and without prompting, to go public on his desire to call Shawcross up. The Stoke defender was born in Chesterm, but qualifies for Wales as he spent five years in compulsory education there.

Once again, Coleman decided to run his mouth to the press on the issue this week, saying, "I`ve had a conversation with Aaron and it was positive but there is an issue there," said Coleman yesterday.

"I still haven`t spoken to Ryan or (Stoke manager) Tony (Pulis) about it, but I will after the Bosnia game."

But Ramsey has since told the press that there is no issue, explaining, ''There is no situation.

'Chris is the manager, he is the one who makes the decisions. I am the captain, I am a player and I just turn up and play.

'I am over what happened, I have moved on since then and as I have said it is up to the manager what he thinks is right to do for the team.'

Many may believe Ramsey has been somewhat coerced into that statement, but if you look at the few interviews he grants, Rambo simply isn't the type to shirk an issue if there is one. His determination and refusal to back down when he questioned the way the Welsh F.A. handled the appointment of the late Gary peed's successor on behalf of his players shows you as much.

I think Chris Coleman is probably just one of the rustier spanners in the shed.

One has to wonder what Coleman intends to achieve by creating unnecessary publicity over this matter. With Rambo's statement, he has been made to look a tad silly and out of touch. If it had occured to him to communicate with his captain to ensure they present similar or close to similar front to the public, this would be a lot less controversial.

People often lambast Wenger for his complete non-commital manner towards the press "I didn't see it" "there is no problem" etc etc, but the alternative is what we're seeing here. Speaking about things in public that really need to be kept in house. How difficult is it to go up to Rambo in training and say "I'm thinking of calling Ryan Shawcross up for Wales, what are your thoughts on the matter?". There's not one single reason that anybody outside Coleman, Ramsey and Shawcross need to know about this. The guy is a buffoon.
