Bartley Joins Swansea

Arsenal utility defender and ex Reserve team captain Kyle Bartley has joined Swansea City for a fee of around £1m. Bartley made his Arsenal debut in a 1-0 Champions League defeat at Olympiacos in December 2009. Since, he has taken in loan spells at Sheffield United and Glasgow Rangers.

Bartley played in the pre season tour of Asia, but Arsene clearly didn't see enough to keep him on. He underwent a medical at Swansea this evening and has joined them on a permanent deal.

On his twitter page, Bartley revealed, 'Swansea deal complete. Very happy.. Was an extremely tough decision for me to leave arsenal, but felt the time was right.

'Swansea offered me an opportunity.. And I'm extremely excited to start my career here, will always be thankful to arsenal for my education..

'Was told my chances of game time this year would be limited, and as an ambitious young player I wanted to play in the premiership.

'Now I'm here I will give 100% for Swansea. Thankyou everyone who has been behind me. New chapter for me.. And I can't wait. Kyle.'

All reasonable enough.

Best of luck to him. Looks like Wenger really is trying to get rid of everyone we don't need/want/doesn't want to be here. I just hope the rumour that Theo is about to pen a new deal is true.

It'll be an interesting few days(ive said that a lot over the years on here) looks like Song is Barca bound. The season for Coquelin or Frimpong?

I would have thought its a loan move.. but a permamennt move just after being offered a contract is strange.

This has to mean we get in another defender or defensive midfielder who can double as a defender. Good luck to Bartley; about time too.

Meh. An average player who struggled in the Scottish league, could never see him having the ability or talent to make a first team place for himself. Good luck Kyle.

I too think the reason for this is that there is a defensive signing on the radar. Good luck to Bartley at Swansea though, hope he flourishes there. Think Coquelin will step up too this season and give us some decent defensive options.
