'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Team News: Arsenal vs Southampton

After what felt like the longest Interlull in the history of mankind, we return to some proper football this weekend.

Following an impressive display in the 2-0 victory at Anfield, Arsenal look to improve on their offensive play (and maintain our defensive prowess) in only our second home game of the season against Southampton.

Abou Diaby misses out on the game after picking up a minor (cue an 8 month lay off) knock whilst on duty for France, Chesney returns after injury and Koscielny remains on the bench after an impressive three games from The BFG.

Here`s the line up.

Arsenal team: Szczesny, Jenkinson, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Coquelin, Arteta, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho, Podolski

Substitutes: Koscielny, Santos, Giroud, Walcott, Ramsey, Arshavin, Mannone

Didn't think we would start Giroud from the bench and completely forgot we had the dangerous runs of Gervinho to put on show. Well, all one can say is Good Luck, lads.
Odd team selection. This could be the perfect game for Giroud to get that burden off his back.
If the team can do the job and get a few goals before bringing him on, it could work in his favor to play with less pressure. Again, there is Montpellier to come midweek which should be big for him.
Get in there! Great work for Podolski.
Happen to be spending a week in Toronto and the game isn't being shown live. Any links to a good stream?
Great first half but WTF Szczesny. Very disappointing way to end the half. Even more disappointing to concede our first goal of the season like that.
We can't link streams on here. Network rules. Google can help though.
Totally dissapointed with Szczesny. Naijain Canada also. Try
Great half, I hear on 'Player'. What a way to concede our first goal. A clean sheet would have ensured the defense has something to hold onto and who knows how long the trend would have gone for. Still looking for a good streaming of our game, please.
Oh, thanks Phreddy.
Naija try
That Chesney goal was really, really annoying.
Arsenales F.C
Gervinho has a brace..... Who would have thought that? Hehehe!
szczesny is so rusty today
I was skeptical about bringing in our No.1 for a league game as I prefer to retain the group that's been doing the business. Plus, Mannone does have a more assured kick-out than the Pole. Anyway, it's 5-1.
Great performance, we seem to be getting goals and assists from everywhere at the moment. Much more balanced look to the team and we seem to have threats from so many different areas it will be hard for any team to stop us scoring. Not getting too carried away, as it is Southampton who don't have the best defence. Szczesny is looking a real liability at the moment tho for both club and country. I hope he gets his confidence back soon or he could cost us in tighter games.
Great game of football. The big news is that Giroud hasn't scored :-)
Excellent from everyone except Szczesny. Hopefully he'll shake off the rust.
Okay. Time to update the League table to the right; and maybe, the Poll.
Listen to the game via Arsenal Player and text from Arseblog! Great game from The Arsenal, a pity that our Gk GIFTED Southampton their goal! But they players did give Us Two goals after all :-) Maybe we'll be 1st on MOTD???????????
Excellent performance that from the Arsenal. The combination play, speed and directness the team displayed was a treat. Sczesny better find his mojo back in the Montpellier game, if he doesn't, it may be prudent to play Mannone against City.
WHAT A GAME. A little *****ed at Szczesny, but hey no team will keep 38 clean sheets. This season Arsenal is winning as a team. Goal all coming from all over the place. Seems sometimes less is more. Don't think we would have scored 6 with RVP in the team. Now the attack is multi-pronged.
Interesting to see Gervinho in the 'false 9' role. His ability and pace to get past players showed more, perhaps because he has more license to go where the space is rather than be confined to the wing where teams can double up on him. I dunno, I'm clearly no football expert. Obviously will have to see how he fares against better teams. Also impressed with the defensive side of the game again and Arteta is so crucial to this. Once we get Jack back, we could have one helluva midfield.
Very pleased so far. So close to 4 clean sheets from 4, so it makes Szczesny's slippery gloves moment particularly annoying but that's nit-picking at an overall vey great team performance. The Keeper needs to buck his ideas up and quickly.
I was very impressed with Gervinho - intelligent runs and clinical finishing are always welcome - 4 or 5 players that are capable of that and we are set !!
You have to feel sorry for Szczesny as well. He has just returned from a rib injury and may have been trying to avoid clattering into Jenks with the potential of having an impact on his sides. He will learn that keepers need to barge into everything in their path.
