Team News: West Ham vs. Arsenal

Arsenal return to Premier League action this evening as we travel across London to face West Ham.

The Gunners have always had a bit of a bitchy relationship with Hammers manager Sam Allardyce and this game sees the return of the animosity after Fat Sam spent a couple of years managing in the Championship.

The Arsenal line-up sees The BFG restored at centre back at the expense of Koscielny whilst Giroud`s impressive cameo in midweek sees him get a league start in place of The Ox.

Scorer of the 3 goal against Olympiacos Aaron Ramsey features in the first XI also.

Here`s the squad.

Arsenal team to play West Ham: Mannone, Jenkinson, Vermaelen, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Arteta, Ramsey, Cazorla, Podolski, Gervinho, Giroud.

Substitutes: Martinez, Koscielny, Santos, Coquelin, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Arshavin

Just the squad for this game, in my view. Now, we just have to be solid all round and it should be 3 points. Good luck lads!

While I would have liked to see Coquelin get some game time because his readiness may prove crucial for us some time soon, Ramsey has sure earned his place in the starting 11 today. Giroud just has to score today; the full backs should be whipping in crosses for him to test the West Ham defense aerially. Come On You Gunners!

Despite our great start, you always worried about the Hammers going on to score first. Diame is one to keep an eye on. We need to show a lot more composure in their area. 1-0 West Ham.

Giroud's movement and build up play has been fantastic all season. Finally pays off for him. First of many for this guy. Very talented player who has been receiving extremely unfair criticism.

Agreed GK. I've been impressed with how hard he works he's just needed a bit of luck. That said, he didn't bother waiting for some luck and just grabbed himself a goal off his own back. Nice work from Podolski too.

With regards to "Cathorla" I can't comment, I'm not Spanish, I'm led to believe that's how it's pronounced .... what I do know is that Arsenal is not pronounced "Arzenal" Chris Waddle you bell-end.

Giroud will score goals. We just need to whip crosses with better accuracy and he should make hay. Must say we started very well and got the Hammers defenders blocking shots al the time and their keeper did make a good save off Giroud as well.

I have heard the Spanish pronounce the letter Z as 'th'. That is the correct pronunciation all right.

Real Zaragoza is a case in point. I think it is so pronounced if a vowel precedes the Z.

More of the same in the 2nd half, lads. Only we need to shackle Carrol (Cole, when he comes in) and Diame a lot better. We played like we are the home side and need to keep up the pressure on west ham; when the goals come, we need to keep our calm as I feel Benayoun will be brought into the game and he may have a point to prove.

No commentator all season has tried to pronounce it like that. My TV broadcast here switched commentators from from John Champion to Stuart Robson after 20mins into the game. They were joking about it during the halftime show.

Santos must remain disciplined and stay back more, leaving the overlapping role to Jenks. But, then, what do I know?

BTW, if I'm not mistaken, we are playing a back 5 with 3 CBs. That doesn't happen too often!

Just a shape to close out the game. A sneak preview of how Wenger's mind may be working now, to keep his CBs happy.

Very good win, I should say West Ham looked threatening (Nolan had 2 chances which he screwed up, and that header from Carroll was reminiscent of the winner with Newcastle). In the end, the quality of the finishing separated the 2 teams. All 3 goals were top quality finishes, really pleased for Giroud who was very good today, but Cazorla is a little genius.

Excellent win. West Ham were committed and scrappy till the end but our overall quality told in the end. Higher possession, shots on target, goal attempts and passes in the final third. The team now has a breather - lets hope the international break is kind to the players.

I found the game extremely exciting. By no way it easy fr Arsenal, but a job welldone by the boys. I still belive we the lads all have to get shootingtraining from Arteta and Cathola. Well done to the lads.

It was important to get 3 points because we couldn't afford to fall any further behind Chelsea and it would have been very damaging to the players morale to have worked so hard in our games so far and have so little to show for it. The second most important thing to come out of it is the boost to Giroud's confidence. We needed him to start scoring soon to take the pressure of our midfielders to score. He looked like a good signing to me even before this game despite what some people have said. His movement around the box has always been good which is why he keeps getting so many chances, it was just his finishing which was a bit rusty. He works hard for the team and doesn't hide which is another thing I like about him. We also benefit from his height when defending and taking set pieces which is something we've struggled with recently. I hope he gets a good run in the side now to continue his progress.

Fantastic performance! Don't know why Giroud got criticised, he's always getting into good positions, only his shooting needed a bit of work and it's probably nerves anyway. He tried a bit too hard in the first few games and now we're beginning to see what he's capable of. Poldi's assist, Giroud's for Theo's goal, oh and Cathorla! He's a joy to watch. I was at the games against Chelsea and Olympiacos and what struck me most, apart from his obvious skill and intelligence on the pitch, was his smile and work ethic. Awesome player for me! And btw, with my extremely limited knowledge of the Spanish language, people in and around Madrid/Castilla pronounce 'z' as 'th' and I see lots of English pundits try to pronounce it that way. People in other parts of Spain and South American say 'z' for 'z' as far as I know. Imho however, the English don't really have to do that, cos they rather often pronounce other sounds inaccurately anyway, with the 'o' in Spanish and Italian a case in point. :D

That was a great match, I am pleased with the performance overall. Ramsey and Arteta were good today, with great passing stats, both getting over 90% completion. The defence was ok today, only that Diame could have been stopped before he got into the box. They allowed Carrol to head every ball but collected the second ball most of the time, which was good. Giroud made and scored his goal with aplomb, and also set up Walcott for the winner. Which, I must add, was a perfect finish. As for Cazorla, well he was pretty good all game and then wallopped in the 3rd with perfect technique - before he took the shot I was saying he'd score. Awesome goals all round today, a very exciting match indeed. Hopefully we can go on from here and win the next two games before the clash at Old Trafford. I believe that Chelsea will struggle with their next two fixtures so if we win ours then we can begin to catch up.
