'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsene Proposes Seasonal Revamp

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has, not for the first time, suggested that a season that runs from January to November might help English clubs in Europe. Questions have abounded as to the quality of the Premier League with Manchester City already eliminated from the group stages and Chelsea on the cusp of elimination too. Arsenal, England's 3rd placed club, look likely to finish behind Germany's 3rd placed club Schalke 04 in their group, though they have assured qualification.

Speaking to the Daily Telegraph, Wenger explained, 'Maybe we have less room, less margin, than we had before when it was just a question of when we would qualify. Now German football has come up, Spanish football is there every year and some French clubs have come back like Paris
Saint-Germain. It looks less obvious for us.'

Wenger has long supported the prospect of a summer season and he did so again with the Telegraph, 'I understand it looks completely strange as people have been educated the current way but I moved to Japan and the season was in January to November. We started training in January and after a while it was completely normal.

"The period of rest would be the same. It wouldn`t change the number of games. You would not be confronted with these situations when players are playing in two different championships. You would play during the summer period in the best period for football to be played."

What do you think of a January to November season?

Whatever the merits of the idea the chances of it ever being adopted don't look strong. Presumably all the European leagues would have to embrace it in which case I'm not clear where the advantage would be. It might be fun to watch teams like City go out and Chelsea struggling but early exits could ultimately lead to the PL's 4 places being reduced.
Amos.
The Champions league should only be the champions anyway, so that'd suit me. If the Europa cup had a bit of an improved format it has the potential to be a brilliant tournament, one that we'd actually be in with a chance of winning.

From a purely English point of view, I like it. Games during the summer, Christmas would make pre season seem shorter too (and would be much better for my disposable income!) But I doubt clubs like Seville would be as happy to play in July.

Just start the season a week earlier and finish it a week later, giving everyone a 2 wk xmas holiday thus saving the earbashing he got upon telling Madame Wenger Boxing day is a no go again. Jeez do I have to think of everything?
