Team News: Reading vs Arsenal

Arsenal play Reading tonight and I`m late to get to my friend`s house (which by the way I haven`t seen The Arsenal lose at in around 7 years when I`ve watched games there … and no I can`t move in, I`ve asked, they said no) so let`s get straight to the team sheet.

Here`s the Arsenal team sheet.

Arsenal team: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Arteta, Wilshere, Cazorla, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Podolski.

Subs: Mannone, Koscielny, Coquelin, Ramsey, Rosicky, Gervinho, Giroud.

I really, really hope we keep Walcott. His performance will be underplayed, but the whole of this season it really has looked like he can play up front. Today the movement was just fluid, the control was nice, the passing was nice, the finish was good. It also looks like what he lacks in hold up play he may make up for in his ability to pressurize players at the back. When Walcott is sprinting towards them it's making players rush their decisions.

Who said Wenger doesn't play tactically? He has gone on all week about playing Giroud and throws Theo in there and that has helped to quicken the pace and have the players keeping the ball on the ground as against playing long balls for Giroud to flick on in hope. This was more like the Arsenal play we expect more of.

I thought Wenger got his selection spot on tonight. Walcott has got to accept he can't be played up top every game. There are certain games he will be best suited to play from the wings and others where he can bring something to the side by being central. Wenger has to make that clear to the lad; this club is where he can get the most joy as he can't expect Chelsea, United or even Liverpool to sign him for anything other than a bit part player/understudy. Theo has to be guided properly before he does anything he will regret

Good win. Great to see Cazorla playing further forward where he's needed and is most dangerous. I'm not sure we'll always be able to get that from him but with the use of Gervinho in that forward role and now Walcott it maybe that a more mobile forward is a key to him doing so. It will be interesting to see how we set up in the next game but we're almost half way through the season and still experimenting with the attacking formation. I'm not sure we've got the pattern right yet but we need to find something that works quickly.
Amos.
Gervinho, as forward looking and "available" as he is, has this penchant for slowing down an opportunity for a quick counter-attack, otherwise, he should find a place in that front 3, if only for the panic he creates in opposition defences. If he is coached to keep head up and release the ball quicker and with precision passing, he can be devastating. The way I see it, against very defensive teams,it will have to be Giroud with Cazorla playing a little bit deeper; Gervinho may be required alongside Poldi. Otherwise, the formation on Monday night suits most teams we will wish to pick on the break.

*suitable against most teams we will like to pick....*

Theo was anonymous for the 1st 20 mins, didnt even know he was on the pitch. I don't understand the praise for him - if anything, he showed why he cannot play the lone striker role on a long term basis, although trying him there for a change will not hurt.
