'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Team News: Arsenal vs Newcastle

Ho ho ho, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all Vital Arsenal members. I trust you`ve had a fantastic time this festive season? Though an absence of football for us this Boxing Day leaves me feeling I`ve not been around here for yonks.

Probably because I haven`t, I`ve been drinking …. A lot …. And undoing all my good work achieved through arduous hours of exercise by cramming my not so fat face full of assorted roasted meats, vegetables and many many desserts.

As the festive period draws to a close we get back to the real meat in our sandwiches, football, and even though we begin this evening in one of those dreaded tea-time kick offs (seriously, I only remember us doing well in about two of these games over the years) it is football nonetheless.

We host Newcastle tonight who aren`t in decent form (seems giving a manager who has had a couple of good months an 8 year contract wasn`t the best idea) and we`re currently sporting one of the least injured squads I can remember. Coupled with the rest we`ve had having had our match with West Ham canned, we should also be suitably rested.

Let`s see how the boys line up.

Arsenal: Szczesny, Sagna, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Gibbs, Arteta, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Podolski, Walcott.

Arsenal subs: Mannone, Djourou, Ramsey, Coquelin, Rosicky, Gervinho, Giroud

Great finish by Walcott. That's the sort of finish I've come to expect from him.

Is it just me or have we become so boring to watch. Not sure what Wenger says to them on the way out but either the message is wrong or it's not getting through. We look a really average side, playing as individuals. Just getting completely bored of it all. Tippy tappy with no penetration.

Bwhahahahahahahaha.

Lol, Gooner_Vin please don't ever predict a win. Honestly that performance there is exactly why I've been saying this season Walcott looks like he can play upfront. Watch his first 50 goals for Arsenal easy enought to find, you can tell he's a striker through and through. Wenger was just training him on the wing to play upfront.

I said a while ago I'd like to see Theo given a chance through the middle ... I had a few people here laughing at the suggestion ... he's doing pretty well there though. Hope it continues.
Rocky7
I'm glad my reverse psychology worked, lol
Gooner_Vin
Remember to predict Spurs to finish above us like you must have done for the last 15 years.

Great offensive performance, not so great defensively (no one at the far post for 2 goals - wonder what Gibbs was thinking). Newcastle would have been tired and it showed towards the end, but it can only be good for the confidence to score 7. There is still some way to go before we get the defensive/offensive balance right.

A Great 3pts! Newcastle were Theo-ed!!!!! Happy New Year to Gunners everywhere!!!!!!!

Couldn't see the game as I had to drive (in foul Toronto weather) one hour for a family engagement. Pleased with the result and glad we got 3 points again. Good for confidence and should, hopefully propel the team forward.

Well done the lads, but lets be honest We were lucky Toon ran out of steam. In the first half It looked like we were the team who'd played the extra game! Defensively we were all over the shop. While its great to pick up all the points lets be under no illusion its going to be a fight to bag that 4th place this time around.
Wyn Mills
Let us be under no illusion we were extremely poor yesterday and Theo was the worst culprit missing simple chances. That said I take nothing away from the goals he scored or created. Against another team we would have lost big time.
phreddy
I have now seen the full game via the repeat on Sportsnet world. I am not sure I understand the gloom in the comments by Prits and Phreddy but take it you just wished to sound a note of caution. True, we left it late but to go ahead 3 times does show who was on the front foot for the larger part of the game. Newcastle is a good side that can play well on any ground, so we cannot scoff at this result.
