Szczesny - Not Just a Keeper, He's a Gooner Too

Arsenal goalkeeper, Wojciech Szczesny has done many things to endear himself to the Arsenal faithful over the past few years, not least being the answer to the goal keeping problems that have plagued us for donkeys.

Celebrations with ballboys, that nod n` wink after launching Gareth Bale into the stratosphere, penalty saves, and general craziness that seems to be almost essential to every great shot stopper.

I`m sure Chesney`s latest interview will only go further to cement an already solid relationship between crazy goalie and Gooner.

'Ever since I signed for this club, I`ve become an Arsenal fan,' Szczesny told Arsenal Player.

'It feels like it`s more than me just playing and doing my best on a Saturday afternoon. I feel like I have a much bigger part to play at this club. It means that little bit more to me.

'I think there`s a lot of players in this team that are genuine Gooners. You`ve got people like Carl Jenkinson, there`s Jack Wilshere, Emmanuel Frimpong - a lot of young players who really feel it`s the biggest honour they could have, to play for this club.

'I think that`s very important for the future.'

The sceptics amongst you might see this as just another blatant attempt to gain favour with the fans who stand behind him, but I feel that in Wojciech we have one of those all too rare commodities .. a player who actually cares for the club.

You can see from the way he celebrates goals esp against Tiny Totts, that he is a proper Gooner. Long may it continue.

Szczesny doesn't seem like the sort to say something only bcoz it's the right thing. He's been honest in his past interviews, there was an article in the Guardian last year about how he's the only youngster who had a lot of questions when the club had a session on handling the media. I don't doubt his feelings right now, but if the club does not get results over the next 2-3 seasons, the practicalities will bite in, even for Wilshere/Frimpong etc.

It's nice to hear all these things from him, but not sure if i believe him. it was only over a year ago that he said that he would be tempted if Barcelona come calling and he would jump to the chance of joining him. So all these comments are just PR stuff..
