'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Fat Sam Dampens Diame Rumours

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce has poured cold water on press reports that Arsenal have bid for Irons midfielder Mo Diame. The ex Wigan midfielder is suspected to have a £3m release clause in his contract, which Arsenal were reportedly prepared to trigger in the wake of injury to Mikel Arteta.

But the West Ham boss denied that the Gunners had made any enquiry, 'You are always worried about losing players but we have not had a bid from Arsenal for Mo Diame. I can't see where he would fit into their side.'

You just know there'll be a few Arsenal supporters cursing Wenger for missing out on this opportunity to strengthen the squad.
Amos.
Whether or not Diame is the answer is open to debate. I think it’s an area we do need to strengthen personally. Tossing Diaby in against City with Arteta injured when it was likely that he was going to be rusty suggests an erring of faith in Coquelin. (Though I accept City’s midfield is quite physical and maybe that informed his decision and Coquelin may be more suited to playing Swansea and West Ham). Since Rosicky seems to be persona non grata another creative option wouldn’t go amiss and I’d suggest a striker is the most immediate priority. The sentence I used to describe the squad on September 1st was “So unbalanced it’s going to fall over.” I think that’s proved to be the case thus far but it’s salvageable in this window if we take the necessary action.

Looks like it wont be Capoue then. http://www.7amkickoff.com/2013/its-fargin-war-capoue-set-to-sign-for-everton-mvila-for-qpr/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+7amkickoff+%287amkickoff%29

Agree LD, a striker and a mid fielder are priorities. Another defender if Squillaci goes. I don't know why Wenger doesn't play Rosicky but he must be seeing something on the training ground. I'd say we've not been impacted severely (yet) this season by injuries, and it's telling on the squad depth that we're still suffering.

I don't know what to make of the press reports about Arsenal "targets" seeing a we are linked with any and every player with a buy-out clause or a contract dispute. What I do know is Diame will be a good addition to our squad. We do need a striker who will show composure and strength under pressure from defenders. Both Giroud and Theo lack the required ball skills to deal with aggressive defenders; Giroud loses the ball countless times, after doing the hard part of controlling it. I do understand Wenger's need to protect his existing players so as not to "kill" them, at least till replacements are procured, do better than what we have now.

Diame has proven his quality but my concern is he is more like Diaby but 2 of them would do nicely!
