Wenger: Let's Get Physical

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger wants his Arsenal side to rediscover their physical streak. In the early part of his reign, players such as Patrick Vieira, Martin Keown and Ray Parlour were the iron fist inside the Gunners' velvet glove. But as he built a young new team at the birth of the new stadium, steel was almost entirely supplanted by style.

But Arsene reckons its time to get tough again, with a more experienced brand of player in the squad now. The likes of Podolski, Vermaelen, Diaby and Jack Wilshere, along with the Premier League's most frequent tackler Mikel Arteta suggest a steelier spine and Wenger wants his team to reach in and find their inner beast.

"Maybe we need to be a bit more physical. When the referees see our team sheet they say: 'Oh, Arsenal - fantastic`. We have physical players, but maybe have to restructure the balance of the team.

"We have the characters to do it. We have technical players but we also have physical players."

Great! Now. He's got the referees rubbing their hands with glee; practicing how quickly the cards can be produced, Westerns style-like. Bet Mike Deen will remain the fastest draw in the "west" ;-)

We might be able to get away with it now that we have more English players. Notice how when Wilshere was being constantly fouled eventually the referee just pulled out a red for the next player that looked lke he fouled him (company).

i wonder why we are not going for m'vila. he is the type of physical + technical dm we need and he is reported to be available for less than 10 mil now

His reported attitude is the reason nobody wants to sign him. There has to be a reason Chelsea, City, United, Liverpool, Spurs and Everton aren't sniffing around him.
