'Transfer Deadline Day' (Urgh) Live Blog

So the dreaded Transfer Deadline Day is here.

The day that combines those three most terrifying of things. Jim Smith, Harry Redknapp and our lack of signings.

But just on the off chance something happens today, we`ll be updating this article with even the most tedious of transfer rumours.

So let`s get started ..

 photo tumbleweed_zpscb6c350a.jpg

TRANSFER NEWS FROM ARSENAL!!!!! And it's truly a gift from the god of Sky Sports News.....Chuks Aneke has rejoined Crewe Alexandra on loan for the rest of the season. BAZINGA!

In other news, the Beeb's Davod Ornstein reckons Arsenal are working hard to bring in a left back and that the David Villa deal isn't quite dead, but looks unlikely nonetheless.

The left back rumoured to be on his way to Arsenal now has a name, after the BBC's David Ornstein tweeted "Arsenal working on deal to sign Spain left-back Nacho Monreal, 26, from Malaga. Reports say he's in London, 10m move."

Ladies and gentlemen. Breasts.

That's all for now.

I get the feeling that picture will still be there at 11:59pm tonight.
Rocky7
I think a picture of a lady's breasts is probably going to represent the high point of the day.
Little Dutch
Which is exactly the reason I posted it. If we're going to sit looking at the computer screen all day (and let's face it, even though we hate it and know fine while the likelihood of anyone coming in is minimal, we'll still be sat with hope) then at least let's have somethine nice to look at. Ladies, next transfer deadline day I'll post a picture of Giroud's whang.
Rocky7
Are those Santos' breasts?
Wyn Mills
This team is unimprovable, we have top top super quality in every position. We have cover in every position, we just chose not to have any forwards on the bench last night.
shewore
Well, as we're not expecting any arrivals at ashburton we might as well discuss moves elsewhere. 'Arry seems to have captured Samba, a player we were linked with a season or so ago. Will be interesting to see who makes way in central defence at QPR.
Wyn Mills
Nielson's off tho ..
shewore
Has to be a trade up after the utter shambles of late. We think our lot have problems...
Wyn Mills
Santos does put the bra into brazilian.
nikolaijns
I just farted loudly, happened to look out my window and a sky sports reporter had appeared from the undergrowth looking around desperately trying to find the cause of the newsworthy parp. Must've thought he was missing a Redknapp interview? Deal the fecking cards then someone, five card stud?
nikolaijns
Really quite shocked that Santos has been picked for the Brazil squad.
Wyn Mills
oh...wait.
Wyn Mills
David Beckham has apparently turned us down for PSG, after trials with us. We can't even attract a fading star. Just what is going on, eh?
Naijagunner
Why do we even bother with this thread? lol. I dream a dream... of Leighton Baines
Sajit
Oh wait. Any right winger will feel invincible and be encouraged, after coming up against Santos in training, at a big side as Arsenal.
Naijagunner
Hi Sorry if this has already been talk about but is Jenkinson going out on loan?
muddys
So the million dollar question is whether I should keep clicking the refresh button Sky Sports breaking news Arsenal ?
Sajit
With Gibbs now injured I would rather we tried him or Sagna left back then Santos!!
muddys
Hmm why would Swansea sell Danny graham? Doesnt make sense
Sajit
muddys, not sure there was any truth in the story about Jenks. He is Sagna's back up and yes, with Gibbs out for (a minimum of) 3 weeks,......
Naijagunner
Remember when we used to genuinely think The Emirates era was going to be a "Golden age for transfers"? What happy, naive and gullible times. In contrast, now whenever the club says anything I punch my self in the head.
Professor Calculus
That doesn't sound too painful Prof, given how little the club actually says. Lots of words out of Wenger, zero content.
elbondo
Cheers thought not but you never know what will happen at the moment , we need to bring in someone as that defending last night was embarrassing but was no way surprising!! Sagna is not having his best of seasons
muddys
Fully expecting a 'We tried' article on arsenal.com in the morning
ajwb
"We Tried" "Like a new signing" "Spending is not the solution" "I believe in this team" "They didn't want to sell (for peanuts)" "Diaby is coming back from injury" "We only want top, top quality players and none were available" "It would kill our younger players" "It's better to focus on our game" "We can't spend 50m on one player" "Why can't other clubs just give us their best players for free"
Professor Calculus
No! Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try. ~Yoda
elbondo
Hehehe! PC, you are cracking me up.
Naijagunner
We're being linked with a left back called Bong. Bing Bong.
Wyn Mills
Latest is Malaga LB Nacho Monreal is joining today. If true, his song is already written.
elbondo
Nachos anyone?
Rocky7
Well, at least, there is movement; forced, if you ask me but shows Wenger can pull things off, if he wants to. Oh. I am getting ahead of myself there; wait till it happens. Nacho Monreal is a Spanish international, no?
Naijagunner
Yes and quite a good one by all accounts.
Rocky7
With Santos as the alternative, I will take anyone who is at least, a first team LB anywhere. Meade is reportedly injured or Santos would have gotten the biggest hint how much Wenger rates him.
Naijagunner
Monreal will be cup tied for the CL I presume. Still grateful we don't have to play Santos in the league tho.
bowiecokemirror
Sky reporting it. Seems on the cards.
Wyn Mills
I mentioned yesterday that a CB and LB had to be top priority ahead of a striker. Seems like AW feels the same if the rumours of our attempt to sign Amorebieta as well is true. I really hope we have another option at CB if that one doesn't happen.
bowiecokemirror
According to Graham Hunter of Spanish footballing punditry fame, this deal had already been agreed to happen in the summer, but Gibbsy's injury saw it brought forward.
Rocky7
Yes, he's CL cup-tied but I'm sure Santos or Vermaelen can handle the two games we have left in that comp.
elbondo
@ elbondo - you're optimistic, then(!) @Rocky7 - what do you know about Monreal?
FunGunner
Looks like the love child of Gary Neville and Peter Crouch.
Wyn Mills
Off topic, but this has annoyed me - http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/arsenal-trio-called-up-to-england-squad Why??? Walcott Wilshere and AOC off to be used and abused in a pointless friendly. Grrrrrrrrrrr.
FunGunner
Actually no, I'm not optimistic but I know we do have a chance against Bayern if everything clicks for us on those two days. History would have to repeat itself - Ramsey, currently in a role similar to that of Flamini in the march to the '06 final, would have to move to left back, like Flamini did when both our LBs were injured, and then we'd have to go on a record-setting run of clean sheets; Per would have to channel Sol, and our current No. 14 would have to play like our then No. 14. Possible, I suppose, but Bayern is a very strong team.
elbondo
FunGunner - Absolutely nothing I'm afraid.
Rocky7
He sounds good - I especially like the 'good composure' bit: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/1321523/arsenal-close-nacho-monreal?cc=5901

Nacho in his new Arsenal get-up

Beckham giving his wages to local childrens charity. I guess he doesn't need the money but still quite a gesture.
Wyn Mills
So in the space of a day since balsaboy got injured we've managed to apparantly sort a replacement? Just goes to show it can be done and (touch wood & cloth) done without the trdious dragged out melodrama usually associated with us boring the selling club to submission. It also shows that the will to do any other deals just hasn't been there.
nikolaijns
Niko - apparently this deal was already done for the player to arrive in the summer, they just brought it forward because of Gibbs injury.
Rocky7
Guess it is safe to say 'Well done' to the Manager, then? Why he goes for those not linked to us, I'll never know. This Ignatio chap sounds like a useful buy; can only hope he doesn't "kill" Gibbs' career. Who said he looked like a cross between Gary Neville and Peter Crouch again? Spot on! Hahahaha!
Naijagunner
The MOTM poll to the right of the site has Santos leading the polls by some margin.
Naijagunner
Done deal! Sky sports have confirmed it.
Naijagunner
Now, for the official site.
Naijagunner
Are you watching a different Sky Sports to me?
Rocky7
Seems daft not to have gone for Diame. 3.5m for a proven midfield enforcer to rotate with Arteta and Diaby would have been good business. The berth is there having loaned out Frimpong.

They said he had agreed personal terms with only the paper work left. Is there an update? Window is closed now, anyway.
Naijagunner
Confirmed. Undisclosed Fee; long term deal. Our usual deal types.
Naijagunner
@ Rocky7, thanks anyway. I guess we'll find out soon enough! AW rates him and Graham Hunter likes him, so that's good enough for me. @Wyn Mills - not stupid not to buy Diame if he doesn't want Diame. No-one else wanted him either - no bids at all, according to WHam.
FunGunner
Am I being overly critical in thinking that it takes an injured key player to spark some life and urgency into Arsenal's transfer conduct.
Professor Calculus
Wenger is just sooooo stubborn and self willed.
Naijagunner
Diame has the best agent in the world. The dude was available for free last summer and only West Ham bit. He doesn't even start every game for West Ham. I really don't think he's been so great that he's suddenly Arsenal quality. But his agent did a magnificent job of letting everyone know about his release clause and of course, it's perceived that Arsenal need a big lump in midfield and we know Wenger loves the African player market. It's all narrative fallacy, Diame is totally average.
Little Dutch
Average? Not according to his stats. Or is that his agent too? http://www.eplindex.com/16366/premier-league-midfield-enforcers-sta...
Wyn Mills
It isn't that Diame is average. Real Madrid, Barca and Man U all went in for him only to decide against when they found out he has a heart condition which means he can't be overplayed and there needs to be a defibrillator within 50 yards of him at all times. We obviously found out pretty sharpish as well, West Ham probably didn't do their research. Apart from the heart condition I would say he's Arsenal standard, just a shame that he has it.
Arsenales F.C
Definitely not bothered about missing out on Diame. Still think we needed another centre back or maybe at least have kept hold off Djourou. Squillaci is about as useful as Santos should we pick up any injuries in that position. We're probably ok for midfielders and strikers. I think both Podolski and Giroud could play the central striker role, even Walcott if we're desperate. Gervinho might start playing well for us when he gets back after his confidence boosting perfromances in the ACON! (",)
bowiecokemirror
As for a big lump in midfield I thought we had one of those before. It was called a Frimpong. Besides I'm fed up watching our midfield bouncing off opponents and being bullied.
Wyn Mills
Lets hope we can offload Santos as well tomorrow, best thing for both him and the club. We need to start getting rid of all the dead wood.
bowiecokemirror
The Diame saga is an illustration of just how silly transfer windows have become. Allardyce was getting ever more vocal as the window went on pointing out daily 'we don't really want to let him go but we can't prevent him' and how they 'really want to keep him' what he was really saying was 'he's available give us a call'. But it seems nobody did and even in the last few hours Sullivan's son's tweet reminded any interested club that he was available unopposed to any one who wanted him. West Ham did as much as they could to make sure every knew he was for sale.
Amos.
Frimpong's average too. I really honestly don't think our midfield is bulllied at all. Arteta tackles more often and more successfully than any midfielder in the Prem (he's pretty high up in terms of fouls committed too). Not convinced I'm seeing Diaby, Coquelin or Wilshere bullied either. Cazorla has played a little further forward than all of those but I'm struggling to think of a single game where I thought he was bullied. I think that's a totally antiquated critique that has somehow carried over from 2006 (when I think it was true) simply because we haven't won silverware since. (A bit like the "project yoof" complaints). We have issues, but I really don't see that they're physical at all. I can't think of a single game this season where I thought we were physically bullied. Not one.
Little Dutch
The Diame saga is just the same as the M'Vila-to-Arsenal stories. Player desperate to go, club desperate to sell, use Arsenal name to generate interest. @ LD totally agree and well said.
FunGunner
I hate to say it but we have done ok. If we can step up the 1st 20mins of every game like the second half of recent matches, we are good to go. I think not spending now, and if you get 4th place, will give us the opportunity to replace Song and RVP. We need a CB, Goalkeeper, CDM and a Super Striker. Squillaci, Arshavin, Fabianski, Manone are leaving this summer, Bendtner, Chamack, Santos, Denilson are hopefully coming off the books too.
Arseniger
You "hate to say it", Arseniger? Why, you'd prefer that we didn't do ok so you can say "I told you so"? Well, so do many other fans. Hopefully, you have a different view of Giroud now; to be honest, there was a point when I was going to tell you "you called it right", but the guy just started firing on all cylinders.
