Wenger Ridicules Title Talk

Wenger Ridicules Title Talk

Arsenal Wenger has baulked any talk of winning the title this season.

Arsenal are sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League and in an incredible run of form, however after only 6 games the manager quite rightly labelled the talk "ridiculous".

'You believe 100 per cent or you don't believe, so that is how much our belief (in the title) is.' said Wenger

'In our job the most important thing is to have a good balance between ambition and humility; ambition because of course we want to win (the league), but humility as well because we know we have only played six games and to speak today about the title is absolutely ridiculous.
'What we have done is to continue to have the same ambition and I think the team has a good humility level and is conscious that we want to improve.'

And that`s exactly right. Wenger and the players have to believe they can win it, otherwise we definitely won`t, but to talk about it at this early stage is craziness.

Interestingly though premier league betting have The Gunners at third favourites to win the league at 4/1 …. With Man Utd waaaaaaay out at 7s.

However, we all know how quickly that can change!

Wenger gets panned when he says that we can challenge for the title especially when that challenge ends, as it has most often in recent seasons, in 3rd or 4th place. He's right at this stage to point out that we are simply still only challenging for the title. That seems more believable though when sitting top after 6 games than when sitting 7th or 8th at the same stage. It's the best start since 2007-2008 when we maintained the challenge through to a fateful February - that showed just how quickly fortunes can change. Other teams have stronger, deeper squads but keep cheering ours on and who knows what could happen.

I favour the one game at a time approach which we adopted after the NLD on March 12, 2013. This is a reborn Wenger, if you ask me, as he was wont to talk up our title challenge whenever his teams experienced a good run, in times past, so this is a refreshing attitude to our current form. Belief, with humility is the way to go now. It worked after March 3rd and should work again.
