'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wenger Wants TV Ethics Committee

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger would like an etchics committee to look into fixture changes by television companies. Arsenal enter a week where they will play Everton on Sunday, followed by a trip to Naples on Wednesday night before playing away at Manchester City on Saturday lunchtime.

If you are tomorrow responsible for Arsenal Football Club, you would not say I want to play on Sunday and on Wednesday and on Saturday morning,' said Wenger.

'It is the fact that the way football is sold is that every television [station] has its own rights.

'They don't care if you have already played on Sunday, they choose if Saturday morning is a nice [time] to [have] Arsenal playing Manchester City, they don't look if we play on Wednesday.'

Wenger said: 'The way football is sold doesn't protect you.

'I would like that there is an ethics committee who look if the clubs are in the right position and have the right protection for English football to do well.

'That is ideally, but I don't even like to speak about it anymore because after, people say that you are finding excuses.

'I don't want to do that, I just want to deal with the situation game by game.'

However, Wenger confesses that clubs that accept the money from broadcasters aren't really in a position to complain, 'We can do nothing,' he said.

'I personally can do nothing, so I shut my mouth and I just try to win the next game. That is what I learned in 17 years - shut up and play.'

It's always the same, Tim. I think both teams have had to play on a Sunday then in the CapOne Cup on Tuesday, albeit against weaker opposition. Bit I'm glad its you guys that have the Wednesday match! Will you be trying to stick 3 more goals past Napoli so that someone else can qualify, or whatever the outcome will be? Probably not. But its a fair shout by Arsene. I doubt the red nosed knight would have allowed it without a fight, but then again the deadheads at the telly would probably have been too scared t try!
No such thing as ethics, just cash, cash, cash. Football is eating itself!!
