'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arteta Praises Former Club

Arsenal emerged from what we all knew would be a tough game with Everton yesterday will a respectable 1-1 draw.

I think, however, we might have just underestimated how tough Everton would be. The Toffees came flying out of the traps at the start of the game and had us reeling until just before half time when we finally got a foothold in the match.

We could argue that, after a number of 1-on-1s, and an astonishing last ditch thunderbolt from Giroud crashing against the bar from a 30 yard half volley, we could and should have won the game, however I don`t think you`ll find many people begrudging Martinez`s Everton a hard earned point.

Least of all former Everton midfielder, Mikel Arteta.

'In terms of chances I think we had the better chances, but the draw is the fair result for both teams." Said Arteta

'I think in the second half we were on top of the game but credit to Everton, they have been the best side we have played this season in the Premier League.

'They [Everton] have been playing really well and they have always trying to produce a good mix of players with quality, intensity and speed. They are hard to deal with and they made it really hard for us."

'I'm really happy for them, I think they are doing tremendously well with a young manager who has bought a new style. I always want the best for them but obviously when I play against them I want to win.'

Very fair statement.
Many people claim Southampton are the surprise package this season, and with good reason, but I think Everton are. That's not that I didn't think they were a good said before, but they were efficient more than anything, now they look like a very good footballing side. Genuine top four contenders.
