Team News: Arsenal vs Cardiff City

Arsenal face Cardiff in our first match of 2014 as we aim to go back to the top of the table after Man City beat Swansea earlier in the day.

Wenger has opted to give Giroud a rest (or he missies out through injury, I`ve not heard) ensuring Lukas Podolski gets his first start upfront since returning from injury.

Monreal replaces Kieran Gibbs who limped off vs Newcastle on Sunday whilst Arteta and Flamini become partners again in a pairing that always proves to be efficient and solid.

Arsenal team to play Cardiff: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Arteta, Flamini, Wilshere, Walcott, Cazorla, Podolski

Arsenal subs: Fabianski, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Rosicky, Ryo, Gnabry, Bendtner

That's as good as we can muster, in the circumstances. An opportunity for some of the selected players to show what they are made of. We can't afford to take Cardiff for granted especially as they would be playing to prove a point to their new manager (I read he is at the Emirates to watch the game). With City winning at Swansea, this is a must-win game!
Come on you Gooners! Disappointed that Bendy doesn't start.

Game's started slowly but we are picking up the pace and hopefully, we get the much needed 1st goal. That penalty should have been given for the foul on Jack. It did look like he went down too easily but still, there was contact.
Are we about to drop points when our main rivals have all won their games
Any update on Nik injury? :(
Heart rate 160bpm during last 10 minutes of that game. Nick you funny b******, Theo looking deadly! go gunners!
Phew! That was a tough game in tough conditions, there's no doubt we deserved it though. Dominant all the way through, should have had a pen, BFG with a couple of glaring misses. But we battled through and go back to the top. Nice one.
What a relief. Stuff of champs, if you ask me.
Next 4 PL games very winnable! And we need to win them as we've a tough run coming after that. Need a big a gap as possible!
Bendtner out for weeks according to Wenger. ***** this *****.
Me thinks walcott has massively improved on his composure. He needs to teach Giroud a thing or two.
Hopefully Wenger gets a striker on loan, if Nik is out for a while, at least it happened in the JTW.
