'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Match Discussion - Chelsea (a)

Last weekend was fairly brilliant as football weekends go. Arsenal beat Spurs at White Hart Lane and Chelsea got beat by Aston Villa giving the Gunners, and a couple of other teams, a real shot at closing the gap at the top of the table.

Arsene Wenger has the opportunity to compound the misery felt by Mourinho following that defeat at Villa Park by beating the Blues at the Bridge this Saturday lunch time.

A win for Arsenal would see us move to within 1 point of Chelsea, not to mention still having that game in hand. However in the Abramovich era The Gunners have found it increasingly difficult to win away at Chelsea and Mourinho has become somewhat of a bogey manager for Arsene Wenger.

However this is a different Arsenal team from the one Mourinho is used to facing, and this is an Arsenal team having a serious crack at landing some silverware.

Wenger`s boys will also be looking to put a huge smile on the managers face as he takes charge of his 1000th competitive game for Arsenal.

So will this special anniversary yield a special result? Can the Frenchman finally get one over the Special One? Will Tomas Rosicky bag himself another special goal?

Talk about this and more in the special Vital Arsenal match discussion thread which you can find in our lovely forums by clicking here..

Tough, tough game by any mark. Does being the first game of the weekend have any effect? I guess the team we put out can't be much different from the one that faced Spurs last weekend which means the defensive line should be stable. Does Poldoski start again or do we go more defensive with Flamini in instead? Not really an awful lot of options until the treatment room releases a few more.
Good one Rocky! There is not a team and manager one would more like to beat but I'm pessimistic about our chances on Saturday. Our attacking game has understandably suffered in the absence of Walcott, Ramsey and Ozil and just blunting the Chav attack for 90 minutes may not suffice in this game. Will be happy with a 1-1 draw though the chances of a 1-0 to them seems higher unfortunately. Would love it, love it though if a special performance trumps the chavs.
Amos - I think I would prefer to see Flamini alongside Arteta with The Ox occupying the right flank and one of Rosicky or Cazolra through the middle with the other on the left. I think we just need a bit of pace out wide and Flamster for a bit of added security.

In fact now that I think about it I'd prefer Rosicky on the left and Ox on the right with Cazorla pulling the strings. Tommy is an excellent tackler along with his drive and silky skills and Ox seems to have worked hard on his tackling in recnt months too. I think that would make us a very solid prospect to beat.
Arsenal cannot give the ball away like they did against Spurs and they cannot allow Chelsea as much possession. I suspect Flamini to start alongside Arteta and Cazzorla to move into a more central position. The only question will be which two of the three Podolski, Ox or Rosicky starts? Personally I think Podolski will be benched and Wenger may even start Sanogo considering how useless Giroud was at holding the ball up against Spurs. I get the feeling that a lot has happened in the last week that falls into Arsenal's favour and I just hope we can capitalize and be at our best. COYG!
Cant call this one at all, very close. Chelsea without William and Ramires for the game which means likely that Matic, Lamp and Side-Show Bob will be their middle 3. I fancy our guys to trouble them but Hazard, Oscar, Schurle and Eto isn't a bad front four and our guys will have to be switched on.

If we are to win the league we really need minimum of 10 points from Chelsea, Swansea City and Everton games. 3 wins and a draw would put us in such a strong position.

Any Jose team at home is always going to be strong, this Chelsea team are not as good as teams in the past but it's still a huge ask for us. I'm gonna go for the draw which just about keeps us in it while handing an advantage to City and Liverpool!

it has been a while since we are in such position where the title is still within our reach at this late stage of the season. the destination is in our hands. if we can beat chelsea & man city in the run-in, then it's almost ours. so no excuse. if we deserve it, we'll have to prove we are good enough
10 points from 3 games would be excellent indeed Galway! I feel a draw would suffice however a win would be so much more enjoyable. The last time we won at the bridge Van Judas was banging them in for us right?
Oh and that picture of Mourinho is terrible, really want to hit the pr1ck in the face. I'd take a 1nil win though.
I think a win for Wenger tomorrow would be like a punch in the face for Maureen. Hopefully it will be from a blatant handball or a goal from Giroud who was at least 10 metres offside.
I can't stand Maureen. He looks like Lucifer himself in that photo. I would LOVE it if we beat them tomorrow. Yes, I know that sounds a bit Keegan-ish and probably just as futile but still. Come on Arsenal.
The whole 1000 game thing is really taking focus away from the actual match! If I see another team selection based on Wenger's 1000 games (best players, worst players, players with the most hair, bald players, blue eyed players, left handed players etc) I think I might just have to destroy Twitter!

I'm firmly in the Roy Keane camp on this, put away all of that talk until you've retired and then you can look back.

I wonder will Wenger surprise us all and drop Giroud in place of Sanogo? Terry and Cahill are both very strong in the air so it may make some sense to throw the more mobile Sanogo on in place of the pretty static Giroud, might allow us to open up a bit more space?
Galway Gooner
Much as I'd like to see more of Sanogo from what we've been able to see so far he looks very raw. When Giroud replaced him against Everton it was Olivier who looked the more mobile and more surer of touch.
Just feel that Giroud has looked very slow of late and with him being up against Terry and Cahill who both sit very deep and are both very good in the air it kinda makes the availability of space at a premium. Creating space is not really Giroud's strong point.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Sanogo get the nod. Wenger's done it before!

Cornish - you can throw away that betting slip mate!

Ill take a draw to be honest.
draw would be a good result, a win would be excellent and I think would really move us towards favourites for the league. A loss and I think it will be all over for us.

Have a funnily good feeling about the game........
