Ozil Is Right Back At Ya!

Ozil Is Right Back At Ya!

In time honoured fashion any one receiving the accolades that Ozil did as a big money purchase from Real along with the endorsement and regret of prominent former team mates at his departure will be seen as fair game for naysayers.

Despite a good record for his first season in the PL coinciding with the club's first trophy for a while (it's nearly a month since we last won one!) there have been plenty of doubters seeking to find fault as though the fee paid should result in a higher level of performance than he'd managed previously.

The German midfielder has taken all that has been dished out, including a nasty attack from Neil Ashton who somehow manages to nick a living as a sports journalist for the Daily Mail which in turn manages to nick a living as a newspaper, with quiet dignity.

In an interview with German sports magazine Sport Bild he took the opportunity to give some back. Pointing out that he is now a seasoned player having played in three countries and winning a cup trophy in each with a record worthy of respect he told his interviewer:

'I was voted Germany player of the year three times running and in the team of the year in England - always by the fans - and that is also important to me.

'I feel that I have the trust of Joachim Low and Arsene Wenger and I have justified it.

'I am now 25 years old and at that age every footballer in the world plays in a different way to what he did when he was 21.

'Naturally my role at Arsenal is different in that I have more responsibility than I did at Real. I like that.'

Ozil will never be the showiest of players. His assets are in his decision making and in doing the simple things with intelligence and skill. He's a player who also needs to be watched with the mind's eye to fully appreciate him.

That says it all right there for me, Amos. If you are looking for flair (not that he isn't capable of even that) at every touch, or a show man, then Ozil isn't your man. His key value is in how his team mates tend to entrust him with the ball at every given opportunity, even from deep. It is like they know, 6 out of 10 times, he would take the best decision for the team. Some of he criticisms of Ozil have been misplaced, sometimes. I can understand the frustrations he elicits during games, but I put that down to this being his first season and no pre-season. This will be a better one for him.

Cesc has signed for the Chavs. I hope y'all are happy now. Gutted. Got this sinking feeling that we gonna regret this. I hope I'm wrong, I hope I'm wrong.

I was especially pleased with how Ozil underlined the increased responsibility he was asked to assume. He made the point to contrast that with his previous role at Real which I thought was a sign of a true convert to the cause.
