Arsenal Draw Besiktas In CL Qualifiers

Arsenal have drawn Besiktas in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League.

After topping the table for most of last season, Arsenal ultimately found themselves finishing in 4th place and in need of going through the qualifying round to gain entry to the Champions League proper this season.

The draw for the qualifiers has been made and the Gunners have been paired with Turkish side Besiktas.

Besiktas finished 3rd in their domestic league last season and whilst the team shouldn`t pose "much" of a threat to Arsenal their defence was pretty stout at home and a trip to Turkey is an unenviable task for the boys.

They definitely need to take this one seriously.

Arsenal.com saying we got there first with the home tie the week after. It will be tough going there but I fancy us to get through the tie quiet nicely.

Besiktas have Hugo Almeida and Demba Ba upfront and they are both capable players. Former Arsenal academy youngster Oguzhan Ozyakup should be in their squad as well. The away tie should be tough - a score draw there should hopefully see us go through in the home tie.

I woke up this morning and thought 'Besiktas are the side we should avoid". I have to say it is going to be a hard game. We would have the games sandwiched between some tough PL fixtures like Everton; plus the fact we won't still have the full complement of our German contingent. Hopefully, we keep Demba Ba quiet and scale this hurdle nicely.

Fenerbahce last year Besiktas this. We should be setting up a supporters group out in Turkey if we don't have one already. We got by Fener well enough last season and they went on to win the league out there so hopefully Besiktas won't present a greater challenge.
Amos.

Yep, Delta. Those players are with Besiktas. Demba Ba would especially, seek to dent our prospects of progressing but we should have a bit more quality than they do.

A decent draw overall. Not routine but ...

A pretty edgy draw, when you look at our physical shape. We have not had many warm up games and at the Emirates Cup, especially against Monaco, a number of em lads were outta shape. Hopefully this should improve over the weekend against City and when the league starts off. Tis a decent draw, so please get the job done Gunners.

I was browsing Twitter earlier when G4L shared a text message from his Turkish cousin who said in no uncertain terms that Besiktas are in the CL through no credit of their own and that Turkish football is in a real state. Take from that what you will.

They have Added a few good players, to be fair. It won't be a walk in the park for us but we would edge it.

Well Besiktas beat Chelsea in a recent friendly and Mou had no complaints about that one. Lool. Tough Opponent?
