Wenger Will Have Summer Kitty

According to Arsenal Managing Director Keith Edelman Arsene Wenger will have money to spend in the summer, despite exiting The Champions League early.

Some people had recently claimed that the purse strings would be tight again this summer due to Arsenal`s exit in the first knockout round of the Champions League.

Edelman denied any such claims, saying: 'It will not affect the manager's budget at all. It certainly will not mean it will be cut in any way."

'If we had gone all the way to the final it might have been increased, but the budget is set based on a exit from the first knock-out round.

'Arsene will have money he always knew he would have, regardless of the result against PSV Eindhoven.

'Of course it was a massive disappointment to everyone at Arsenal but it won't affect the financial side of things.'

In all honesty I don`t think the squad needs much investment. If Lehmann goes then there will probably be a 'keeper come in, although Wenger has said already that Almunia could get the #1 shirt when Lehmann does eventually leave.

A winger is what Arsenal need in my opinion. I know it`s not really in Arsenal`s game but it offers another variation if passing our way through the middle doesn`t work.

A figure of 20 million has been touted around by the press! Yippee! 40 new signings for us to look forward to 8-)

with 20 million in the kitty.. plus seeing that wenger will offload a player or two.. we might be in for a couple of big signings.. yippeeee.. and coupled with the current squad.. its gonna be awesome..

im happy to invest more into the academy/youth team, but i want our current 22 to stay as is for next season, then we will weed out the non-performers and replace them, im sick of transition years so if we DO buy we'd better buy someone with prem experience

All *********, the board are lying and making Wenger's job a lot harder in the process. If we have soooooo much money to spend, why do club level season ticket holders have to payfor next year's season ticket now? Look, the club has little money for this tyoe of thing, we know this, stop treating us like idiots and tell the bloody truth.

LD, you may be right but Wenger is too close to the board to ever complain about lack of funds... he understands that clubs are a business and will just get on with what £££ he's given. Asking for season ticket money now is indeed a bit rich.

In all honesty, I doubt Wenger will get anywhere near the figure that has been touted. The season so far has not been a disaster but in terms of what the board expect, I think they will be a little disappointed and that could mean tighter purse strings. We have a few players that will leave and that should give Arsene some money but I fear that unless some players that we expected more from this season so far, dont step up to the plate, we could be money wise, in for a lean summer. We have to finish third if not second and we have to start putting teams away. Gooners forever.

Babel, and a keeper. Maybe Akinfeec, Pele, Gordon or Boruc (although i'd like Kameni as much as any of them) but thats all me thinks.

I have to say most of his transfers always seem to come good. He always manages to get good players for a good price.

Wenger will get on with what he's got, of that I've no doubt. But the board make his job harder by putting pressure on him when he doesn't spend these enormous sums of money the fans use it as a stick to beat him with.

I dont know what we're getting excited about. Arsene's last 'big' signing was Reyes back in 2004?? He has always spent wisely, and I dont see the urgent for big expensive signing. The club cannot afford to say there is less money for him to spend. It is just bad PR in this day and age of media hype and misreporting.

from what i hear, from the inside, money will be spent on a couple of names.. i presume lehman will go, as for where else wenger sees the strengthing i am not sure... sendoros seems to be out of favour, so maybe a new defender ? also i do wonder if eboue has burnt his bridges that wengers patience is warying thin... but he will buy, the board will insist becuase they don't want another baron season.

has anyone heard of theboard accepting bids for gilberto? IMO apart from ljunberg pretty much everyone should stay.

PG just wondering who from the inside, not taking the ***** if your serious, but still who? 20m is not that much money, its not gonna buy you Villa, Torres or Eto'o as some people seem to think. I mean seriously it buys you one Carrick (or 40 Kolo Toures).
