Napoli Star To Replace Alexis?
It was reported over the weekend that Arsenal could be back in for Napoli attacker Dries Mertens in either the January or summer transfer window.
With plenty of links over the summer to the likes of Juan Cuadrado, Riyad Mahrez and our deadline day offer for Monaco's Thomas Lemar, we were reportedly also looking at Napoli's Mertens but he secured himself a contact extension very early on in the window and that seemed to stem any interest in him.
Calciomercato have reported that sources have told them that manager Arsene Wenger was heavily interested in the player previously and there are plans to go back for the Belgian in either of the next two windows, as he's seen as a more natural replacement for Alexis Sanchez.
A January move would open up some kind of transfer fee being returned of course.
Mertens is said to have a buy out clause of 30million Euros but what that would mean for a supposed return for Lemar is open to debate.
Then again this is transfer speculation so can probably be ignored.
