Usmanov Denies Talks

Usmanov Denies Talks

Arsenal investor Alisher Usmanov has stated categorically that he's 'not holding talks' with majority shareholder Stan Kroenke over selling his shares.

Speculation has built the past few days with suggestions that Usmanov was ready to sell his 30% stake to Kroenke and it was suggested by some corners of the media that he would then use that investment in Everton.

With reports still circulating that Kronke has launched an offer worth around £28,000 per share (Evening Standard) they quote him a saying he would consider a sale, but only to a buyer 'who shares my and undoubtedly the majority of fans' vision for the club'.

The BBC also quoted him saying in his statement.

'I see my 30% stake as an important aspect in protecting the best interests of the fans in the club.'

'My interest in Arsenal from the beginning was long term and my intention has always been to buy additional shares should they become available. I would like to assure supporters that I am open to various future scenarios - a constructive partnership with the majority shareholder, the purchase of his stake either alone or in a consortium, or if a party appears who shares my and undoubtedly the majority of fans' vision for the club, I could consider the question of selling my stake.'

Usmanov launched his own takeover back in May which was rejected and he doesn't have a seat on the board, but his statement also confirms his offer remains on the table.
