Hoyte: On A Par With Utd & Chelsea

Young Arsenal defender Justin Hoyte feels Arsenal are 'on a par' with both Chelsea & Manchester United and that the mighty Gunners will be battling on all fronts next season.

The England under 21's defender has come into his own this season, holding down a regular spot at various positions in defence, and has looked great after his loan at Sunderland last season.

Hoyte believes Arsene's young Gooners have drawn or lost many games this season that should have easily been won (Boro, Everton, Newcastle, Man City & West Ham anyone?) and that Arsenal are in no way lagging behind the big two.

"We feel we are on par with them already, it`s just the way the games have gone. Although we have played to the best of our ability we have just lost games we shouldn`t have done at the end of the day. But we feel we are on par with the likes of Chelsea and United.' said Hoyte

"Obviously we have to do our best for the remainder of this season then we will look forward to building for next year. '

"All the players are full of confidence about next season and will be looking to win everything in Europe and in our domestic competitions."

Hoyte has impressed me this season and is making all the right noises.

I don't think that there is any doubht that we can match any team in Europe for footballing quality. If you look at Chavski and the M*ncs they have the ability to be machine like when playing in the pontential "banana skin"" matches and this is where we seem to fall. In the Premiership we have taken 10 points out of a possible 12 against the other three teams in the top three. This is only to be tarnished by silly results in the games that we really should win.
Arsenal1991
totally agree with him; which is why we dont need a mass change about in the summer. We dont need to add many, if at all to our squad. we have been so unlucky with injuries and with the way some games have gone and we should all feel excited about next season. Justin is a typical english player and an arsenal fan at heart, and as long as he believes and feels all the players are excited about next season we should not feel worried at all. Think about, Henry will have had a real big rest, and should be raring to go next season. the same with RVP. there are no bit internation competitions in the summer, and not too many friendlys so out players shoul get a lovely rest. plus, all our youngsters have had a whole season getting used to the top level, and have experienced heartache, which is all part of the learning curve. I cant wait till next season... next season is red and white!!!
D4NNYT
You gotta love our Justin, and he is totally correct about us being on a par with the others... although history will always remember the champion, the margin between us and those above is much slimmer than it may appear which is why I also feel excited about next year, and even for this year, to get within spitting (literally) distance of the muckers in blue above us in the table.
Andy-bayor
Hoyte's proved a lot this season, but the whole team needs to next year. I agree with what he says but third will not be good enough in the league, more than just silverware we need to prove to Man USA and CSKA London that we can compete with them consistently. I'm confident we can, the glass is definetely half full at the Grove.
Ozi Gooner
Bottom line, put the ball in the net when we get the chances, we'll be well up there.
Little Dutch
exactly LD
Ozi Gooner
Yeah Andy, to be honest I didnt think highly of his abilities, but been very impressed with him this season. Plus he is making all the right noises. Actually if you compare the stats between Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal in terms of goals scored and conceded so far, you will see what he's talking abt.
prits
Oh and can I just say how sorry I feel for England fans having to watch their team play a side intent on nothing else but putting ten men behind the ball and kicking the ***** out of them at any given opportunity. Imagine what it would be like having to watch that every time your team plays!
Little Dutch
but England still scored and won!
Jacky B
Oh and also, I have been very impressed by Hoyte's attitude. I thought he was toilet at the beginning of the season, but le boss has seen something in him to persist with him and give him a new deal and I think he's worked very hard at his game and improved immensely. He's got a way to go, but he seems grounded and determined. I think having grown up a Gooner, with his brother a Gooner (I see his sister and his mum at away games as well) he genuinely appreciates his position. Let's hope it stays that way. Oh and selling Lauren to accomodate Hoyte, selling Quincy to accomodate Theo, proves to certain people that if you're good enough you play, no prejudice, no bias.
Little Dutch
"but England still scored and won!" That my old son is why you are a spud and we are Gooners.
hatespur
That "my old son" was merely pointing out that in sport at the highest level, if you wanna win, sometimes you gotta work for it, and be prepared for tough games from lesser opposition. I think England are *****, but Le Arse would have prob drawn that game last night.
Jacky B
That wasn't anywhere near sport at the highest level. It was absolute s***e. I guess you are looking for a bite with your assumption that Arsenal would have drawn the game? You aren't getting one, so there.
hatespur
No, i was looking for a bite with my first remark, which was in reply to LD saying that its hard when teams play dirty and shut up shop. which Arsenal fans, and their manager cannot seem to take. Arsenal on form are very hard to compete with on a "footballing level", so it make ssense to change the shape of the game and play physically and defensive. They call that tactics. ;-) sometimes Wenger is very good at them, sometimes, he is not.
Jacky B
Whilst we are on the subject of managers. Is Elmo Putney the world best tactician or an absolute moron in Spuds eyes this week??
hatespur
To be fair, there's a difference between Everton and Andorra.
Little Dutch
i take it you refer to big martin Jol? If so, i can only speak for myself, and he is neither. And in light of that jibe,(if it was one) i would like to point out that whilst some Spurs fans are very fickle, they do not have a Monopoly. I recall some very disgruntled customers on here after your triple cup exit a couple of weeks back.
Jacky B
Yes LD, but my point remains in tact. Evertons tactics were surely spot on? avoid defeat and nick a winner if you can.
Jacky B
intact sorry
Jacky B
Blimey Jacky, are we guilty of blind loyalty or fickleness?? I get accused generally of the former.
hatespur
Obviously, as you can also infer from my previous post, that depends entirely on the individual. To suggest otherwise would be....... well... racist ;-)
Jacky B
Don't start all that, we'll have your mate back:) You still in a job LD?
hatespur
Everton's tactics were spot on. The time wasting really grated though (I'm talking about the home game here, not the recent crushing defeat), the problem is with us. I've got no problem with teams being defensive, what I despise is the time wasting and the violence. It's just every time it happens to us, we're supposed to accept that it's part of the English game. So Gmast does Eboue with a poor tackle, no booking, we're told to shut up. Barton treads on Mendes, a booking. Redknapp complains, gets charged with misconduct. Morgan punches van Persie, Andy Gray says, "that's part of the game" we're told to shut up and that we're just whingeing foreigners who can't cope with the British game. I guess I'm saying, after listening to the likes of Keys and his Murdoch clones at Sky castigate us for not embracing violence, it was nice to see the England team on the end of it. I got *****ed off at the Andorrans as a football fan, their antics were a disgrace and I don't want to see that. But I think they proved a point that it's annoying as hell when you have to put up with teams playing like that against you. Cole clearly didn't like it and Gerrard's, ahem, "loss of balance" in the area was pathetic. Just as Bridge's reactions against Eboue (who deserved red nonetheless) were lamentable, but those players get no criticism.
Little Dutch
Yeah, still in a job. Funny, the board of education have yet to tell me about any complaints from sociopathic head cases.
Little Dutch
"I know where you live" Classic!!
hatespur
Dont get me wrong. I love "The beautiful game" but the way i see it is this... Its a bit like when you try and outwit and outsmart a yobbo, using nothing but intellect and wordplay. Invariably that frustrates him to the point of wanting to cave your head in. THAT IS LIFE. I see these "physical" teams as the footballing equivalent.
Jacky B
Good analogy Jacky. Are you positive you're a spud??
hatespur
I do also love a "hard tackle" though :-) soz, couldn't resist
Jacky B
Should said idiot try to cave your head in, surely you would want the police to punish said yobbo appropriately? I know what my reaction would be if a copper said to me, "So you've got a broken jaw? Boo hoo, get on with it you fancy dan. In my day..........."
Little Dutch
I am indeed. We invented the beautiful game after all / awaits backlash!
Jacky B
yes, LD in an ideal world. But....
Jacky B
I once got clumped, in the centre circle, and at the end of the game (there was about half hour left) I started feeling worse. I ended up having a brain scan and spending a night in hospital with concussion. I informed police, and although the guy got sent off (proving the incident occured) they told me all they could do was knock on his door, and "have a word", so in a sense they called me a "fancy Dan" lol
Jacky B
HAHAHA, i wont bother with the backlash after you invited it but just laugh. Speaking of embracing violence didnt we do that against Chelsea (supposedly) and get 3 red cards a total of 10 games banned and 100k fine. By the way has any one noticed that Stevie G is diving a lot more often these days?
Ozi Gooner
I had my tib and fib broken in a tackle that could best be described as an assault and was told that unless anybody was videoing the game there was nothing I could do. Just as well my club insured all their players or I wouldn't have got paid for six months. Ahh the beautiful game indeed.
hatespur
Stevie G doesn't dive Ozi because he is English. It is merely gamesmanship.
hatespur
Jacky mate that is a bit 'fancy dan' as you English blokes are saying, i'd call it soft. Have you ever seen a game of Aussie Rules, you should come here and play for a season in a country leagues, more punch ups in a game than a Milwall v West Ham match in the 80's.
Ozi Gooner
you were insured! "thats more than lucky"
Jacky B
I reckon its pretty cowardly to smack someone for no reason when they aint looking. If i wanted to get punched i'd take up boxing.
Jacky B
Sorry boys not meaning to be offensive but i dont understand this attitude of getting all official about sporting incidents. That is just part and parcel of the game down here, even football. In a game about 2 years ago at the start of the match a bloke from the other team was off the field tying his boots when the wistle blew, we kicked off, past out to the wing and as our winger took off down the flank with the ball the guy tying his boots flew straight onto the pitch with a studs up tackle and broke my mates leg, bone out and all; Cisse style. Everyone piled in, three red cards a lot of cuts, bruises, black eyes and bloody noses, my mate was in a wheel chair for three weeks but thats all it was. No aftermath, no police, no extended suspensions, no hunting eachother down in pubs. What happens on the field/pitch stays on the pitch down here, thats all there is too it.
Ozi Gooner
My dad had his nose broken about 4-5 times being punched behind the play in Aussie rules, plus a few concussions on the side. It happens all the time from kids, to school, to amatuer, to professional; Its a more violent sport than rugby. So i suppose we're just used to it. People even fight in Basketball games. To be fair though my Dad was the Aussie Rules equivelant of Robbie Savage.
Ozi Gooner
erm cos if i punched someone in the temple and they died on the pitch they bloody well would stay there i reckon. You can't use a sports pitch as some sort of lawless haven where thugs rule, and the idea of the game is lost. Also, if a tackle puts you out of work, you dont get paid over here if you are self employed. I think you need to stop confusing aussie rules and football. I am not trying to be offensive, but i find what you just wrote to be faintly ridiculous. ( I dont want this to turn into a Harry style insult slinging match either)
Jacky B
I'm with Jacky on this. We all understand when we play sport what the dangers could be, but being attacked on a football pitch is no different to being attacked in your local. Retribution should be executed and punished in the same manner. Aussie rules is a different concept altogether because punch ups and hideous challenges are a bi-product of the sport.
hatespur
Ozi, when your mate's leg got broken, were you playing Blackburn in some kind of pre season friendly?
Little Dutch
Nah, i get you. That actually happened in Melbourne like a year ago, a guy died a day or two later from a punch in a football game and the bloke who hit him got time, like 8 years or something. I was just saying its a bit different here, fighting on any sports field is very common; I mean just look at how abusive our cricket team is. So people normally just take it and give it, and try to be discreet about it. I mean in Aussie rules its different its a full contact sport, you can get someone back within the rules, ya dont need to use your fists. But footballs still a bit like that here, the only time i've seen police get involved with amateur football is when parents or fans get involved in pitch fights, and thats cos we have this ethnic club system (Crations v Serbs, Turks v Greeks sort of thing) and it happens way to often. Cultural gap i suppose but not justifying sucker punching for the point of it, just saying we're a bit different.
Ozi Gooner
I would say that was the convict in you Ozi, but it is a dangerous subject to broach. Only kidding...HONEST.
hatespur
Nope, it was in my last year of highschool, but it was like the school equivalent of a derby anyway. It was by far the worst tackle I've ever seen though, and it was their best player on our best player, literaly 15 seconds in. Our games usually were about as skillful as Bolton v Blackburn though.
Ozi Gooner
A bit different, OziG?? No offence mate, but that was an understatement of huge proportions :).
prits
We take pride in our convict heritage. We've got a song for it; DONT YOU WISH YOUR ANCESTORS STOLE A LOAF OF BREAD!
Ozi Gooner
I'm with jacky and hatespur. Having played cricket for most of my life, which is a no-contact sport, and never doing enough on a football field to be tackled :), I cant really understand excessive violence on the pitch like u described, Ozi.
prits
Nah, I agree with you all I'm not for violence in football, thats not what i was saying. I was saying i dont understand any involvement of outside authorities cos we play sports where its common. Anyways how did a discussion about Hoyte and us competing with Chelsea and Man U get to here, if SH was on it'd be another 300 poster.
Ozi Gooner
I think the lack of proper football is getting to us all Ozi.
hatespur
indeed it is, not long now. Sit tight lads
Jacky B
What is this, a love in? for gds sake someone get SH and the illiterate cusop and we can all have a giggle! I'd even settle for Mr Commonsense! sorry jacky I like the things you post and you seem like a good bloke but thats not we want from our favourite Nieghbours.... we want mentallists, bring back Sir Harry!!
kenny lunt
Love thy neighbours, unless they're tottenham ey?
Ozi Gooner
Pretty much! or if they're Alan Pardew!!
kenny lunt
I see we have frozen S.T prices again. Thank f*** for that, I was beginning to think I may have to sell myself at Kings X to pay before June 1st. Doubt I'd have made much anyway.
hatespur
Kenny lunt or Lenny Kunt? will that do?
Jacky B
funny how you can type that, but not ******y (S P O O K Y)
Jacky B
see jacky even when you try you can't get me worked up like the others.... you haven't even called me a racist yet let alone threatened me with the sack!! Sorry fella but your just not that much of a d*c*head... now by the time monday comes I want to see the word pikey and scum in everyone of your posts and I want you to refer to me as "the author"!! Jeez, call yourself a lillywhite!
kenny lunt
******
kenny lunt
why is S P O O K a rude word!
kenny lunt
See my earlier post Kenny, I was doubting his true identity. Seems far too normal to be a knuckle scraping neanderthal spud.
hatespur
Cynical hatespur but the evidence speaks for itself.... some kind of elaborate scam you think?!
kenny lunt
i have no idea, Pikey scum
Jacky B
getting there! I still dont feel the hate bubbling through though...
kenny lunt
Dont get me wrong i do hate gooners, but unfortunately i also enjoy banter. If i was to come out "swinging" all the time, i'd likely get bullied off the site. I am also fully aware, that in terms of footballing success, i have much less weapons at my disposal....... So it makes sense to box clever.
Jacky B
Scunthorpe have more weapons in their armory compared to your under-achieving teapots.
hatespur
Is that based in fact? If we are underachieving in the last couple of years, what have you been doing?
Jacky B
by that i mean a club of your great stature should be winning things. Now you have a stadium to keep up with the others, you have no excuse not to win the league.
Jacky B
Easy fella, I'm feeling your pain.
hatespur
bu*ger it, the spuddy bast*rd is right!
kenny lunt
I do believe however that to maintain a top 4 finish and C.L football is the most we could have expected this season after the move to the Emirates and blooding in so many youngsters. You need fountdations to build a dynasty and in my opinion this is what we are currently in the process of creating. A cup would have been nice to show the fans we are on our way, but certainly no imperative. The fact that our esteemed Spud acknowledges that "a club of your great stature should be winning things" is proof enough of what the Wenger era has done for us.
hatespur
couldn't agree more... the fact that the competition is stronger than it has ever been before doesn't help either! Hate to sound like a scouser but NEXT YEAR!
kenny lunt
great stature should be in inverted commers lol, and whilst I agree you are building for the future, if you were 10 mins away from winning the ultimate prize (and you were) then surely you are capable of winning something. Anything
Jacky B
Kenny. "NEXT YEAR" haha, the immortal last words of a Spurs fan. Now who is in disguise?
Jacky B
hehe, good one jacky :)
prits
I know, my head is hung in shame as I sit here typing!
kenny lunt
you really wanna win something next year, cos if you dont and we win something, i will be saying, "what have you won in the last 3 years". Hell i may even turn the "you won the league in black and white" on its head, and ask what you have won since tele went HD
Jacky B
Just say we had have won the CC and then didnt win anything next year the same people who bay for Wenger or Henry's blood this year would be doing it then, saying the CC is a nothing trophy (which is right but they wouldve loved it at the time). they'd probably still be doing it if we one the CL last year, they are ungrateful, glory hunters. Something that could never be said of yourself jacky (or any spurs fan really). But who cares, *****em' i say. By the way did anyone read Edelmans comments? What do you recon?
Ozi Gooner
About this glory hunter stuff. Not that you have to cheer for a mega team. But, what about foreign fans ? How on earth will they like a team that only gets *****ed?
k_chelski
Who gives a flying f*** about foreign fans. If they supported a club in their own country they wouldn't be foreign would they?? I for one think that Arsenal have now got too many clingon supporters that 'joined' when we were doing well.
hatespur
Fair pt, kevin, but I do know a few people here who support newcastle and other teams that only get *****ed like spurs :). of course the majority support one of the big 4.
prits
hatespur - guilty as charged :).
prits
Hatespur, that is kind of hypocrite of you.Since you're team is foreign , you don't care about foreign people? Prits, there is a huge Nottingham Forest fan base in brazil.
k_chelski
I've got heaps of mates that go for clubs like Everton, Fulham, Newcastle, Leeds, Sunderland, QPR, West Ham even Spurs. I know people that have gone for Chelsea since well before they were succesful. Hearts, Hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee, Parma, Swansea. The only reason i went for Arsenal was cos when I was like 4 I liked the name, Arsenal Gunners - You know when your a kid. I just stuck with it.
Ozi Gooner
Ozi - I doubt there is going to be a takeover NOW, more the result of a slow news week. But its gonna happen sometime, I reckon.
prits
And hatespur, when your team is in a different continent, there is no problem whatsoever keeping an eye on your local team and watching a foreign one.
k_chelski
and hatespur, when u dont have a team at all in my country, there isnt a problem in adopting a foreign one :).
prits
Kevin, barnet (my local club) have a scandinavian supporters club and we've never one anything!
kenny lunt
Thats a bit harsh hatespur, I started supporting Arsenal before I even knew what success was, or who the big clubs were. I support the team that comes last, year after year in Aussie Rules and go most weeks so its not like I'm some fairweather fan, I understand loss. I also support a local club they just havent been around as long as Arsenal so i dont have the same passion for them yet but still go watch them every week. Also if it wasnt for foreign fans paying for merchandise and getting the club international TV rights for the CL Arsenal would not be where they are so we do our bit, trust me every one of us would love to be there watching but I'm 20 and cant afford it - yet. You are the lucky ones so dont ***** on other loyal fans who sit up all night to watch the Arsenal and then go to work with out sleep the next day.
Ozi Gooner
Kev. Re Notts forest. thats prob cos they won the european cup twice.
Jacky B
Kevin, don't be touchy. My dad took me to Arsenal at 5 years old so I have never had to chose a team. My kids will be going with me as soon as they are old enough so they shall also not have the burden of supporting a rubbish team. He was born and raised in Stoke Newington (which is very local). And Arsenal is still very much an English club with English heritage.
hatespur
Disclaimer: It wasn't the intention of the author to upset all things foreign and the author would like to make it clear that he was indeed joking and will apologise if any of the author's comments caused offence or anger towards said author.
hatespur
HAtespur, the fact is, without foreigners, the epl would be equal to the championship. That's a fact.Since the odds of my local club are very very slim of winning the libertadores cup (same as champions league) , chelsea will never conflict with it.And i barely watch it's games. A fan from asia is in the same league as a fan born in london. There's no one better, or no one worse.
k_chelski
Hatespur, I've been supporting arsenal since the same age as you then. So what if i dont live in London, whats the difference between me supporting them or an Irish gooner like Arseblogger or someone from a town with a s***e team like Blackpool
Ozi Gooner
lol, hatespur.Got a little something from Sir_harry , didn't ya?
k_chelski
ozi gunner well said !!! totally agree with u !!
HENRY`14
Ozi, how are the Magpies doing now?? I don't even know where they are from but had a good Aussie fella working with me who gave me one of their shirts and used to go on about them all the time. I can't even remember their proper name. (black and white stripe shirts not surprisingly).
hatespur
I accept the authors apology, but i thought the author was LD
Ozi Gooner
As I said, it was a boredom comment more than anything. No offence meant.
hatespur
Woah, I'm staying well out of this one!
Little Dutch
None taken hatespur.
prits
None taken as well.
k_chelski
Yeah kevin, I do agree with that. The global TV rights money is going to make every club the premiership richer, including arsenal, and I guess we can take some credit for that :).
prits
Welll i'm off now, tchau.
k_chelski
I'm a Carlton supporter, Collingwood are my Aussie rules Tottenham (they're the suburbs beside eachother) and like Tottenham Collingwood Magpies are also the most hated team in the league. We're both doing s***e. I actually live in Collingwood but was brought up in Carlton. Their fans are the equivalent of Spurs to, pretty funny i never thought of this till you asked me but there are a lot of similarities, both big teams with history, neither doing to great at the moment.
Ozi Gooner
kevin, I make you right, but why do you have a cup named after a breed of dog?
hatespur
ciao bella
hatespur
Ozi, that is them. Balck and white right?????
hatespur
Libertadores? That's a breed ? It means liberators ( people who freed america).
k_chelski
Yeah Collingwood Magpies. But i have now been enlightened and from here on they shall be known as Collingwood Hotspur.
Ozi Gooner
Sorry, misread it. It looked like the pooch that help get David Blunkett from a to b:)
hatespur
That is a real coincidence then as it was my mate's local team then I think he hailed from Collingwood. Small world.
hatespur
Maybe, but Melbourne is to Aussie rules what London is to the English football. There is like 8 teams from Melbourne and 8 from the rest of the country and the Melbourne teams fans are scattered everywhere. I live a 5 minute walk from Collingwoods ground that closed like 3 years ago. If he lived in Collingwood i'd live near him but.
Ozi Gooner
Oh maybe. All I know is that it was his local team and he went to all their home games.
hatespur
Hoyte is a ***** if he thinks LE ARSE can challenge manu. for each game you "almost" won, there is atleast one you "almost" lost. The gap will be wider next season, much wider. which is just the opening we were hoping for. THE MIGHTY SPURS WILL RULE AGAIN!!!!!
powerspur
hoyte is a T W A T.
powerspur
And he's living in dreamland with his claims!
merlin
of course you are on par with them it wasnt that long ago you were winning the league
MOYES IS GOD
Rule again. You have to have ruled at all to rule again *****monkey
Ozi Gooner
whatever you say ozi. deny it all we want. just cos the gooners had some success in the last 20 years, doesn't mean football didn't exist long before then. we had a quiet period but now things are returning to normal and it wont be long before we challenge the top 4. CL prepare yourself for THE MIGHTY SPURS!!!
