Hoyte: On A Par With Utd & Chelsea

Young Arsenal defender Justin Hoyte feels Arsenal are 'on a par' with both Chelsea & Manchester United and that the mighty Gunners will be battling on all fronts next season.

The England under 21's defender has come into his own this season, holding down a regular spot at various positions in defence, and has looked great after his loan at Sunderland last season.

Hoyte believes Arsene's young Gooners have drawn or lost many games this season that should have easily been won (Boro, Everton, Newcastle, Man City & West Ham anyone?) and that Arsenal are in no way lagging behind the big two.

"We feel we are on par with them already, it`s just the way the games have gone. Although we have played to the best of our ability we have just lost games we shouldn`t have done at the end of the day. But we feel we are on par with the likes of Chelsea and United.' said Hoyte

"Obviously we have to do our best for the remainder of this season then we will look forward to building for next year. '

"All the players are full of confidence about next season and will be looking to win everything in Europe and in our domestic competitions."

Hoyte has impressed me this season and is making all the right noises.

I don't think that there is any doubht that we can match any team in Europe for footballing quality. If you look at Chavski and the M*ncs they have the ability to be machine like when playing in the pontential "banana skin"" matches and this is where we seem to fall. In the Premiership we have taken 10 points out of a possible 12 against the other three teams in the top three. This is only to be tarnished by silly results in the games that we really should win.

totally agree with him; which is why we dont need a mass change about in the summer. We dont need to add many, if at all to our squad. we have been so unlucky with injuries and with the way some games have gone and we should all feel excited about next season. Justin is a typical english player and an arsenal fan at heart, and as long as he believes and feels all the players are excited about next season we should not feel worried at all. Think about, Henry will have had a real big rest, and should be raring to go next season. the same with RVP. there are no bit internation competitions in the summer, and not too many friendlys so out players shoul get a lovely rest. plus, all our youngsters have had a whole season getting used to the top level, and have experienced heartache, which is all part of the learning curve. I cant wait till next season... next season is red and white!!!

You gotta love our Justin, and he is totally correct about us being on a par with the others... although history will always remember the champion, the margin between us and those above is much slimmer than it may appear which is why I also feel excited about next year, and even for this year, to get within spitting (literally) distance of the muckers in blue above us in the table.

Hoyte's proved a lot this season, but the whole team needs to next year. I agree with what he says but third will not be good enough in the league, more than just silverware we need to prove to Man USA and CSKA London that we can compete with them consistently. I'm confident we can, the glass is definetely half full at the Grove.

Oh and also, I have been very impressed by Hoyte's attitude. I thought he was toilet at the beginning of the season, but le boss has seen something in him to persist with him and give him a new deal and I think he's worked very hard at his game and improved immensely. He's got a way to go, but he seems grounded and determined. I think having grown up a Gooner, with his brother a Gooner (I see his sister and his mum at away games as well) he genuinely appreciates his position. Let's hope it stays that way. Oh and selling Lauren to accomodate Hoyte, selling Quincy to accomodate Theo, proves to certain people that if you're good enough you play, no prejudice, no bias.

Arsenal on form are very hard to compete with on a "footballing level", so it make ssense to change the shape of the game and play physically and defensive. They call that tactics. ;-) sometimes Wenger is very good at them, sometimes, he is not.

Everton's tactics were spot on. The time wasting really grated though (I'm talking about the home game here, not the recent crushing defeat), the problem is with us. I've got no problem with teams being defensive, what I despise is the time wasting and the violence. It's just every time it happens to us, we're supposed to accept that it's part of the English game. So Gmast does Eboue with a poor tackle, no booking, we're told to shut up. Barton treads on Mendes, a booking. Redknapp complains, gets charged with misconduct. Morgan punches van Persie, Andy Gray says, "that's part of the game" we're told to shut up and that we're just whingeing foreigners who can't cope with the British game. I guess I'm saying, after listening to the likes of Keys and his Murdoch clones at Sky castigate us for not embracing violence, it was nice to see the England team on the end of it. I got *****ed off at the Andorrans as a football fan, their antics were a disgrace and I don't want to see that. But I think they proved a point that it's annoying as hell when you have to put up with teams playing like that against you. Cole clearly didn't like it and Gerrard's, ahem, "loss of balance" in the area was pathetic. Just as Bridge's reactions against Eboue (who deserved red nonetheless) were lamentable, but those players get no criticism.

Sorry boys not meaning to be offensive but i dont understand this attitude of getting all official about sporting incidents. That is just part and parcel of the game down here, even football. In a game about 2 years ago at the start of the match a bloke from the other team was off the field tying his boots when the wistle blew, we kicked off, past out to the wing and as our winger took off down the flank with the ball the guy tying his boots flew straight onto the pitch with a studs up tackle and broke my mates leg, bone out and all; Cisse style. Everyone piled in, three red cards a lot of cuts, bruises, black eyes and bloody noses, my mate was in a wheel chair for three weeks but thats all it was. No aftermath, no police, no extended suspensions, no hunting eachother down in pubs. What happens on the field/pitch stays on the pitch down here, thats all there is too it.

erm cos if i punched someone in the temple and they died on the pitch they bloody well would stay there i reckon. You can't use a sports pitch as some sort of lawless haven where thugs rule, and the idea of the game is lost. Also, if a tackle puts you out of work, you dont get paid over here if you are self employed. I think you need to stop confusing aussie rules and football. I am not trying to be offensive, but i find what you just wrote to be faintly ridiculous. ( I dont want this to turn into a Harry style insult slinging match either)

I'm with Jacky on this. We all understand when we play sport what the dangers could be, but being attacked on a football pitch is no different to being attacked in your local. Retribution should be executed and punished in the same manner. Aussie rules is a different concept altogether because punch ups and hideous challenges are a bi-product of the sport.

Nah, i get you. That actually happened in Melbourne like a year ago, a guy died a day or two later from a punch in a football game and the bloke who hit him got time, like 8 years or something. I was just saying its a bit different here, fighting on any sports field is very common; I mean just look at how abusive our cricket team is. So people normally just take it and give it, and try to be discreet about it. I mean in Aussie rules its different its a full contact sport, you can get someone back within the rules, ya dont need to use your fists. But footballs still a bit like that here, the only time i've seen police get involved with amateur football is when parents or fans get involved in pitch fights, and thats cos we have this ethnic club system (Crations v Serbs, Turks v Greeks sort of thing) and it happens way to often. Cultural gap i suppose but not justifying sucker punching for the point of it, just saying we're a bit different.

You are the lucky ones so dont ***** on other loyal fans who sit up all night to watch the Arsenal and then go to work with out sleep the next day.

Kevin, don't be touchy. My dad took me to Arsenal at 5 years old so I have never had to chose a team. My kids will be going with me as soon as they are old enough so they shall also not have the burden of supporting a rubbish team. He was born and raised in Stoke Newington (which is very local). And Arsenal is still very much an English club with English heritage.

HAtespur, the fact is, without foreigners, the epl would be equal to the championship. That's a fact.Since the odds of my local club are very very slim of winning the libertadores cup (same as champions league) , chelsea will never conflict with it.And i barely watch it's games. A fan from asia is in the same league as a fan born in london. There's no one better, or no one worse.

Hatespur, I've been supporting arsenal since the same age as you then. So what if i dont live in London, whats the difference between me supporting them or an Irish gooner like Arseblogger or someone from a town with a s***e team like Blackpool

Ozi, how are the Magpies doing now?? I don't even know where they are from but had a good Aussie fella working with me who gave me one of their shirts and used to go on about them all the time. I can't even remember their proper name. (black and white stripe shirts not surprisingly).

Yeah kevin, I do agree with that. The global TV rights money is going to make every club the premiership richer, including arsenal, and I guess we can take some credit for that :).

I'm a Carlton supporter, Collingwood are my Aussie rules Tottenham (they're the suburbs beside eachother) and like Tottenham Collingwood Magpies are also the most hated team in the league. We're both doing s***e. I actually live in Collingwood but was brought up in Carlton. Their fans are the equivalent of Spurs to, pretty funny i never thought of this till you asked me but there are a lot of similarities, both big teams with history, neither doing to great at the moment.

Maybe, but Melbourne is to Aussie rules what London is to the English football. There is like 8 teams from Melbourne and 8 from the rest of the country and the Melbourne teams fans are scattered everywhere. I live a 5 minute walk from Collingwoods ground that closed like 3 years ago. If he lived in Collingwood i'd live near him but.

CL prepare yourself for THE MIGHTY SPURS!!!
