Baptista Not Up To Scratch

Our latest Vital Arsenal poll (suggested by HipHipToure) asked which Arsenal player has not been up to standard this season.

I was reluctant to run this poll as I'd rather be more positive regarding our football team, but with little else to run (this was before Deingate) I decided to see what everyone thought.

I'm sad to say that Julio Baptista ran out clear winner. I really did have high hopes for the big man, but it appears that the Beast is more of a pussycat.

Poll Result in full:

Which Arsenal player has not been up to standard this season?

*Senderos 20%
*Lehmann 6%
*Baptista 53%
*Adebayor 3%
*Henry 12%
*Aliadiere 6%

Our latest poll asks your opinion on a possible take over.

Dont agree, the boy needs time, he tries his best every game but is taking timne to adapt. Should he stay he will be a legend.
gunnerb
No surprises there. Gunnerb, I woulnt mind if he looked like might settle in given a few months, but with his recent form, that doesnt look likely. True, he tries a lot, and I had hopes for him when he came here. But I'd rather have someone else !!
prits
its a sad ending for him ... but we can't afford to keep him hoping he will find his feet
yazz
still, it's good to hear that he's not been slagging the club, as had been reported! »»Arsene Knows««

Baptista has been far from dynamic, aside from some highlights in the Carling, he's been a virtual pylon on the pitch (or traffic cone? not sure if these are international terms...if not, I apologise for my Canadese). Who is to say whether or not he 'just needs more time'...I'd suggest even AW sees him as little more than a bench warmer right now, yet he continues to give him chances to shine here and there that he doesn't take advantage of. I wouldn't be upset to see him go back...perhaps him and Reyes can lay under the Spanish sunshine together in the spoon position and reminisce about the horrible rainy English weather. I say return the Beast, sell Reyes outright, and take Ribery with the proceeds.

...but guys... it is hard to accept that he is that rubbish! It is for me anyway! I saw him play a bit in Spain and he was quite good. I reckon if he stayed another year we'd see, but the problem is that we will have 5 strikers next year so can't see him being tested further by AW.

Don't y'all think that your being too hard on him? It's his first season. Believe me, when i tell you that this season, swp tripped on the ball , about 7 times. And he is still getting better,He finally showed us a reason to back him up.If AW doesn't think he'll be good enough to get a regular first XI start. He'll return him.
k_chelski
I'm not sure anyone is being too hard on him...you're exactly right though, if he doesn't fit into AW's plans, he will be returned. I speculate this may be likely judging by how he has had limited appearances and failed to impress when called upon...to the point where even Ljumberg with a bum hamstring is being selected ahead of JB to start! He's also competing against some top notch strikers for a very saturated role. Perhaps the writing is on the wall...who knows...
SUX2BU
Do you think Reyes will come back now the bad people have left?
cusop
bad people?? he was of those we are better off without his continous boring remarks all he needs to do is get over it! and concentrate more on playing football and not picking bad things out to make everybody look bad
ajwb
Not unless global warming causes tropical weather in England...and/or someone opens a taco stand in North London. I don't think Reyes wants to contradict his distaste for life in London; nor does AW likely want to bring someone back who's focus is on the weather and the hours of operation for local shops instead of on the field. I'd be very surprised (and honestly quite upset) to see Reyes brought back.
SUX2BU
Cusop seems the bad people are down at the not so mighty lilywhites and Barbie wants out, did you see how upset he was on saturday!? The beast needs time, if we can purchase him for a reasonable amount (7million max) id sign him. As ive stated on many occasions his 1st season has been better than Drogba's 1st season, go figure!

Did we really need a poll to know this?
thenry009
Meh to me the votes should have gone to Henry. He hasn't been up to his normal standards this year. I know he was injured but fact is not his normal standard. I feel people are being far to harsh towards him but every fanbase needs a scapegoat.
Gunners
give baptista anothe half season. he will get to train with the team in the off season and after that we will see
mish
maybe he has not met the expectations of most Gooners out there but im sure that if he is given the time he will adapt more to the pommy game. Or maybe a trip back to Spain may do him the world of good, just like it did eith Forlan. Only time will tell but im hoping Le Boss keeps him on as cover for strikers/midfielders as im positive he can still addd strikepower to our game
Aussie Gooner
That's what I'm wondering A-G. Still, if he does somethign good in the next 3 games, I will be starting a "Back the Bap" campaign.
