Arsenal Agree 'Keeper Fee

Arsenal Agree 'Keeper Fee

Arsenal have agreed an undisclosed fee with Legia Warszawa for Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger has been searching for a long-term replacment for Jens Lehmann for over a year and it looks like he has finally found him.

Fabianski, 22, travelled to Germany for the world cup last year, but failed to snatch a first team place from Celtic 'keeper Artur Boruc.

Speaking to Skysports his agent said: "We are very close to a deal with Arsenal, an agreement is there between both clubs.

"We just have to arrange some details of his contract at Legia and with Arsenal.

"Lukasz had medical tests yesterday (Tuesday) and he has flown back to Poland to play for Legia on Wednesday.

"I expect him to return to London later this week to have more talks."

Arsenal are believed to have beaten two other clubs including Hertha Berlin to Fabianski.

"Lukasz has had three offers, one from Germany and one from another team.

"Lukasz is in a good position and we are close to a deal with Arsenal."

I don't know too much about him but this is what I do know:

- He's rated as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.

- He's quite a tall chap at 6'4'

- He won Polish footballer of the year this season.

- Despite being only 22 he has made almost 100 senior apperances for his current club.

- He was courted by Arsene Wenger last summer before Celtic signed then Legia No.1 Artur Boruc, meaning Legia were unwilling to sell.

So there you have it, Arsenal's first summer signing has been made in the Spring.

If anyone know's any more about him please pop over to the forum and let us know.

I've only seen him on the youtube clips. However the legia fans are all distraught that he is off because they rate him so highly. I did hear one say though that he is injury prone, I cannot verify that though.

Boruc came through the yputh team there, Fabianski was signed as no.2 but when Boruc left. he became No.1.

the kid is thought of better than akinfeev.. bufon i think is too old and i doubt AG that injury prone would be a factor, i am sure wenger and co have done their homework.

I'm only saying what one of their fans said. I don't know anything about the guy other than that I've seen on youtube & other internet sites. I think Wenger is particularly careful with gk, so there probably isn't any problems.

Remember the whole Viera saga last summer? If there was a risk he was injury prone or could become injury prone then he would be on his bike.

All players signed deserve a chance. The trouble is with websites like arseblog they jump on people before they know anything about them!!

Yeah AG I have only seen the youtube clips like most I suppose, but he did look good. Wenger has been searching for a good young keeper for years, we had that farce 3 or 4 years with one keeper who we thought had signed (Fabian carini) who then ended up in Serie A??, then we had Viera all but signed but who ended up at Villareal, we backed out due to medical reasons??. The one keeper I was hoping for was Akinfeev, but this young pole does look like he will push Almunia hard and then hopefully replace Jens after next season, or who knows mid season? I have googled him and found loads of great quotes from many who really do rate him, all put him ahead of Kuscak (spelling dubious) at United and some rate better than Boruc, so at last have we a world class young keeper on our hands? With our track record, I'll believe it when it is officially on the AFC website, but I will be happy if it is true. Just need a left sided winger and I'll be happy with our squad as it is. (if all stay and are fit).
