Arsenal Agree 'Keeper Fee

Arsenal have agreed an undisclosed fee with Legia Warszawa for Polish goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.

Arsene Wenger has been searching for a long-term replacment for Jens Lehmann for over a year and it looks like he has finally found him.

Fabianski, 22, travelled to Germany for the world cup last year, but failed to snatch a first team place from Celtic 'keeper Artur Boruc.

Speaking to Skysports his agent said: "We are very close to a deal with Arsenal, an agreement is there between both clubs.

"We just have to arrange some details of his contract at Legia and with Arsenal.

"Lukasz had medical tests yesterday (Tuesday) and he has flown back to Poland to play for Legia on Wednesday.

"I expect him to return to London later this week to have more talks."

Arsenal are believed to have beaten two other clubs including Hertha Berlin to Fabianski.

"Lukasz has had three offers, one from Germany and one from another team.

"Lukasz is in a good position and we are close to a deal with Arsenal."

I don't know too much about him but this is what I do know:

- He's rated as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.

- He's quite a tall chap at 6'4'

- He won Polish footballer of the year this season.

- Despite being only 22 he has made almost 100 senior apperances for his current club.

- He was courted by Arsene Wenger last summer before Celtic signed then Legia No.1 Artur Boruc, meaning Legia were unwilling to sell.

So there you have it, Arsenal's first summer signing has been made in the Spring.

If anyone know's any more about him please pop over to the forum and let us know.

there goes Buffon, Akinfeev, Gordon, Boruc...
I've only seen him on the youtube clips. However the legia fans are all distraught that he is off because they rate him so highly. I did hear one say though that he is injury prone, I cannot verify that though.

Like we were going to get Buffon anyway. i rate him very highy came from the same club that Boruc came from as well :)
Boruc came through the yputh team there, Fabianski was signed as no.2 but when Boruc left. he became No.1.
the kid is thought of better than akinfeev.. bufon i think is too old and i doubt AG that injury prone would be a factor, i am sure wenger and co have done their homework.
I'm only saying what one of their fans said. I don't know anything about the guy other than that I've seen on youtube & other internet sites. I think Wenger is particularly careful with gk, so there probably isn't any problems.
Ashburton Gooner
Well lets give him a chance from the footage posted in the forums he seems pretty good
Remember the whole Viera saga last summer? If there was a risk he was injury prone or could become injury prone then he would be on his bike.
All players signed deserve a chance. The trouble is with websites like arseblog they jump on people before they know anything about them!!

Yeah AG I have only seen the youtube clips like most I suppose, but he did look good. Wenger has been searching for a good young keeper for years, we had that farce 3 or 4 years with one keeper who we thought had signed (Fabian carini) who then ended up in Serie A??, then we had Viera all but signed but who ended up at Villareal, we backed out due to medical reasons??. The one keeper I was hoping for was Akinfeev, but this young pole does look like he will push Almunia hard and then hopefully replace Jens after next season, or who knows mid season? I have googled him and found loads of great quotes from many who really do rate him, all put him ahead of Kuscak (spelling dubious) at United and some rate better than Boruc, so at last have we a world class young keeper on our hands? With our track record, I'll believe it when it is officially on the AFC website, but I will be happy if it is true. Just need a left sided winger and I'll be happy with our squad as it is. (if all stay and are fit).
Never heard of him. I'd never heard of Toure, Senderos, Djourou, Clichy, Fabregas, Petit, Anelka..............................................................................

Its a good sign, if it is true. Its not surprising that Wenger is planning for the future, again. Looks like this kid will be 3rd choice, though I'm hoping he will push Almunia for the 2nd choice. Whcih will make things interesting at the end of next year. Does this mean Poom will go, actually does anyone care what happens to him :)?
Yup.. supposed to be one of the better eastern european keepers. This actually could well mean that Almunia might move on, not this season but anytime during the coming seasons.. We need probably one more experienced winger.. that'll do.. my only concern is that this season, we're gonna have the African Nations Cup, which could disrupt our defence esp... any thoughts?
No chance will he be 3rd choice. He isn't going from a no1 position to 3rd choice thats for sure. I think Almunia is leaving anyway, he said a few months back that unless he was going to be first choice he was going to leave.
Ashburton Gooner
I hear he is great!
Also, he is classed as the cech bracket...
i'd prefer gordon
Lehmann is slipping further and further into the clutches of alzheimers as the months roll on. and I don't mean that to sound ageist. Its the frequency of his moments of madness I'm refering to. He has signed for another year, but we need to start phasing him out. Never trusted Almunia. He let us down big time in the CL final. I hope this kid comes in and gets a run. Can't be any worse that Manwell.
Like most people I know sweet FA about him, but am really happy its been done and dusted so Arsene can spend the rest of his energy finding a football Director as well as sorting out the transfers in/out required.
i'd rather they show the goals he lets in on youtube. but that aint gonna happen.
speaking on wingers, rumor is we're abt to get babel from ajax.. any opinions on this?
Goofle, petr cech is an over-rated goalkeeper. this guy will be better than him..
McGooner no more promising youngsters, get someone like Anelka, and win the European Cup next season..
Yeah the stupid commentator the other day in the Liverpool/Chelski game said Cech is the best keeper in the world. Now to make that kind of comment your knowledge of the game would have to be very poor, both Buffon & Casillias are far superior to cech. Cech may be a good keeper but he is playing in an ultra defensive team & doesn't look anywhere near as good when he plays for the Czech Republic.
Ashburton Gooner
Cech also has problems getting to the ground, have a look at the goals Chelsea concede, almost all along the floor. This guy is obviously coming to try and oust Lehmann and I think Jens needs the competition. I think AW will look at bedding the Pole in with a view to handing over to him late in the season.
Little Dutch
Wenger may use him as our keeper in the domestic cup competitions, but i feel he'll stick with Lehmann for the entire campaign. and for the team's sake, i hope Jens will have an excellent season and take us to the CL final again and play a major role in our victory. ****, i'm obsessed with winning the champions league, all i think of is having our name on it, can't wait for next season..
i did mention this on the forum a while back
I think Wenger realises that Lehmann's performances will improve next season when once again he has to make sure of the German no:1 position. However this new guy will probably be pushing for a start all season & may get the odd appearance here & there especially in the cups. The following summer Jens will probably be released unless he is happy to accept the no:2 position.
Ashburton Gooner
He will play all the cup game both FA and CC if he is our number 2 next season. Cant wait til we get confromation from arsenal of his signing.
On top form, I would say Van der Saar is also better than Cech. Akinfeev was just injured over the weekend. Don't know the specifics.
Could be a good signing, I don't think Lehman will stay much longer
Johnny Kipper
Heard he is great and hopefully he will settle well and compete with Almunia
1st of many signings (hopfully), but the lad seems to be a good GK or Le Boss would'nt have made a move for him
This'll be Lehmann's last season for sure. Almunia might have a season between the sticks or he might sod off in the summer now that we've signed this lad. I hope Almunia stays, I don't think many teams have a second choice keeper as good as him.
Hope he is better than that crazy guy we have!
akinfeev i heard really did a number on his knee and should be out for a couple months. someone can clarify that one for me please
Get him now and we wont worry about the transfer deadline next season
