'If It's Football, It's Vital'

The Important Things This Summer Are

With the football season drawing to an end, silly season has quickly dawned on us, with rumors flying all over the shop.

Every blog, news site and forum is full of opinions on what is needed this summer. The general opinion seems to be that Arsenal need big names in order to compete at the highest level next season.

Well your writer disagrees.

There's no doubt that something needs to be added to the squad, so what is it? Well, all season I, along with 99.9% of Arsenal fans have been saying that Arsenal need a player in the mould of Van Nistlerooy or Inzaghi, Someone who will finish the poetic moves that Arsenal's chief tormentors put together. Others say that Crazy Jens needs replacing after a below-par season, while some say that the defense is the major problem.

We don't need another star, we have about 2 dozen in waiting as it is!

I'm of the opinion that Arsenal need two things in the summer.

The first is one of, or someone similar to Ribery, Babel or Robinho, someone who will get the ball in midfield and just run like their life depends on it. Hleb can run with the ball but he isn't the quickest, or the most direct of players.

In the year of the invincibles 3 out of our 4 man midfield could go past (or through in Vieira's case) players at will. Pires wasn't the fastest but he could whip the ball past any defender in the world, Freddie had some pace and skill back then, and could be seen doing similar things to Pires. Since their departure/demise, Cesc Fabregas, Rosicky and Hleb have come in. Don't get me wrong, they are all fantastic players, but none of them can do what the invicibles did.

So, a player to run the ball from midfield to attack for the likes of Henry, Van Persie and Adebayor.

The other thing is something that I haven't heard a single person mention since the season's close.

I think our training schedule needs tweaking. Now I know that Le Boss insists on his players being super-fit, and I'm no football coach but when you play three seasons with key players on the sidelines for long periods of time, I think it's clear that something isn't right.

Every player that Arsene signs says 'I've never known such intense training, and I've never felt so fit in my life.'

That's great, but if that player then spends 3 months injured, it's all a bit wasted, don't you think?

So in conclusion, we don't need a tough-tackling midfielder, Gilberto has shown his worth this season; we don't need a center half, Toure, Gallas, Djourou and Senderos have that well covered, we don't need a striker, we need a fit team.

So come on Arsene, get yourself onto Vital, read this, and take note.
