'If It's Football, It's Vital'

My New Favorite Player: van Persie

Every football fan has a favorite player, most have more than one, some have many that fall into many different categories.

However, after the shocking news that Thierry Henry is Barca bound, the position of 'favorite current Arsenal player' is up for grabs, and after many minutes of painstaking thought, I have made my decision.

It wasn't the easiest of decisions when you have the ever loyal Kolo Toure, the ridiculously young and talented Cesc Fabregas, the highly likable Gael Clichy, the crazy Jens Lehmann or the ever cool Gilberto Silva, but I put these players by the wayside (not in a nasty way) and voted for, according to Thierry Henry, the most skillful player in the Arsenal squad.

Robin van Persie is my new favorite player.

Robin arrived at Arsenal with much baggage, many coaches refused to even look at him as a player after certain attitude problems were accredited to him. After many injuries and spells on the subs bench, van Persie stepped into limelight this season a fill a void left by the injured Henry, and even though he suffered himself he still managed to become the first striker in 8 million years who is not from France to lead Arsenal's scoring charts.

The young Dutchman is not only a goal getter, but an entertainer too, something we Arsenal fans enjoy. This passionate player loves to step over the white line, and when he does, football is all that matters. It's true that Rob has a fiery temper, but is it not said that there is a thin line between genius and insanity? (Not sure which side of that line Lehmann is on)

I've been saying for a year or two that van Persie can develop into a world class player, and next season, with him as top dog, I truly believe this will happen.

Who is your new favorite player?
