'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Bernie & Arsenal: Perfect Formula?

Formula 1 mogul, Bernie Ecclestone claims that he would be interested in buying Arsenal Football Club if it were 'cheap enough'.

Silent Stan Kroenke has allegedly been trying to buy the club for some time, and maybe he could now have some competition?

In an interview that had me laughing from start to finish, Ecclestone, who is friends with David Dein says he will 'have a go at anything'.

'I don't know too much about it (the story) actually,' said Ecclestone.

'It's good if somebody is saying that because maybe I will get approached - and maybe it will be cheap enough. I've not spoken with anybody at Arsenal. I obviously talked to David (Dein) when they chucked him out, which I thought was a bit unnecessary.'

'But if somebody offers me something that I think has got good value, I will have a go.'

He then went on to speak about his visits to Stamford Bridge and that he and a friend considered buying the Blues before Roman stepped in.

In all honesty I think Bernie has no idea what he's talking about. He may have amassed over 3 Billion but if he is looking for a bargain of a football club, he's looking in the wrong place.

In a word: no.
super_gooner
I'd use two words "F*** No!"
Rocky7
Lol. Apparently he's a Chelsea "fan" as well isn't he? I'm for Kroenke though, you?
super_gooner
I'm for anything that benefits Arsenal. As for Bernie, when he said "I obviously talked to David (Dein) when they chucked him out, which I thought was a bit unnecessary" .....I laughed just a tad.
Rocky7
At least loathsome Bernie's attitude lays bare (to anyone in doubt) the true attitude and aggression that makes top businessmen tick. These guys may be very successful and adept at business, but our board of old-timers has something that these people will never have.
Andy-bayor
Argh yer ********, I was writing this up. :D
simmy8_2000
Rocky, I think the point of this interview was to reduce opposition to Kroenke's takeover, which is working, if you ask me. I'd rather have Kroenke buy the club than Bernie (IF ever a takeover was on the cards). When I read his - "I'll buy anything if its cheap enough comment", I said - hell no. But I suppose there IS a lighter side to the interview :).
prits
Just out of curiosity, how come you run a story on Bernie's takeover, but nothing on Kroenke's supposed bid, which if you believe sky, is imminent ?
prits
Prits, I honestly believe he is being serious, but the comments he makes in such a "poundstretcher shopper" kinda of way make it laughable!
Rocky7
Must have missed that one Prits!!
Rocky7
I hope he doesnt come. We dont need a dillusional idiot like Abraham!
Goofle
lol Simmo... Rocky's making you redundant mate! I reckon he got up at 6am today and started writing with the clear goal to make your life a misery!
Andy-bayor
I think he's got loads written, waits till I'm about to publish them, then he puts them up. Grrr
simmy8_2000
if he did come he'd need a large cushion to sit on to be able to see the action! he'd also have to give up his sorties to Stamford Bridge!
merlin
HELL NAW
Babeasta
This ***** is stupid as ever. Silly season, I mean. Now it's extended to every Tom, Dick, and Bernie - if he wants a ******** bargain, he should shop at Wal-Mart.
Tripping
Ecclestone is a slimy, corrupt bad haircut mutherfugger. He is not a football man and is driven by his inferiority complex at being a short arse leprechaun.
GunnerBlood
fugger :D I will be using that now (C)! I would not like to be owned by a CSKA fan! NEVER!
Goofle
He's a CSKA fan??? Oh god, if Hll-Wood lets Kroenke buy the club it would be a lot better, Kroenke is a couple of places higher than Glazer of Man U in the Rich List...
stukazufuss
IF ITS CHEAP? Get the fock out of here mane,go buy Ferrari
Babeasta
Gunnerblood, you reckon that's his own hair?
Andy-bayor
**** off and stick to Formula 1 ( which isn't really a sport anyway but that's another issue). Simmy seeing as he pinched your article how about an article from this story http://www.arsenal.com/article.asp?article=477816&lid=NewsHeadline&sub='We’re+quietly+confident+that+Arsène+will+stay'&sublid=NewsHeadline&Title='We’re+quietly+confident+that+Arsène+will+stay'&f=rss
saisho
And what happend to that Arab guy who wanted to buy Arsenal?? Still I prefer Kroenke
afghenry
Perhaps this is all a ploy by Double D and Kroenke - get us to think that Kroenke isn't such a ******** ******** compared to the alternative *****heads.
Tripping

highmark998
