Bruce: We Still Want Djou, Johan

Birmingham City are still interested in taking one of Arsenal's brightest young talents on a season-long loan.

The blue half of Brum first showed an interest as last season drew to an end. It did seem as though their interest had died down, but Steve Bruce was quoted in todays edition of The Sun as saying that he is still interested in the services of the 20-year-old.

Manager Steve Bruce was quoted in The Sun as saying: 'I have not spoken to Arsenal for a while about Djourou but I'll see where we are.

'We are still hopeful something can be done.'


It seems unlikely that Arsenal will be prepared to let the youngster go out on loan with the African Cup Of Nations likely to deprive Arsenal of Kolo Toure and Manu Eboue.

That said, Djourou was withdrawn from Arsenal's pre-season friendly with Salzburg at the last minute.

We'll see...

We really can't afford to let him go on loan, whether Senderos is leaving or not. He's a great defender and will be needed this season when Toure goes to the ACN.

If Big Phill stays, when Toure goes on ACN duty, we'll still only have Gallas, Phill and Djourou. IF Gallas gets injured, and Senderos gets sent off, we'll have 1 CB...

There is Sagna, but if Wenger's comments yesterday are to be believed then Sagna will be playing RB next season, with Eboue playing in midfield.

Not a good idea IMO. The experience will probably do him a world of good, but the squad will be a little thin, as simmo said. I think he will get a few starts this season, enough not to let him go on loan.

prits, i don't think they're our feeder club, more a case that Bruce probably thinks if he can get a few more of our youngsters on loan, that he'll stand a good chance of signing 60% of them if he does... »»Arsene Knows««

Our squad is too thin to even contemplate this. Plus, I think Djourou has shown he has what it takes to stay at Arsenal without a loan spell.
