Bruce: We Still Want Djou, Johan

Birmingham City are still interested in taking one of Arsenal's brightest young talents on a season-long loan.

The blue half of Brum first showed an interest as last season drew to an end. It did seem as though their interest had died down, but Steve Bruce was quoted in todays edition of The Sun as saying that he is still interested in the services of the 20-year-old.

Manager Steve Bruce was quoted in The Sun as saying: 'I have not spoken to Arsenal for a while about Djourou but I'll see where we are.

'We are still hopeful something can be done.'

It seems unlikely that Arsenal will be prepared to let the youngster go out on loan with the African Cup Of Nations likely to deprive Arsenal of Kolo Toure and Manu Eboue.

That said, Djourou was withdrawn from Arsenal's pre-season friendly with Salzburg at the last minute.

We'll see...

We really can't afford to let him go on loan, whether Senderos is leaving or not. He's a great defender and will be needed this season when Toure goes to the ACN.

If Big Phill stays, when Toure goes on ACN duty, we'll still only have Gallas, Phill and Djourou. IF Gallas gets injured, and Senderos gets sent off, we'll have 1 CB...

There is Sagna, but if Wenger's comments yesterday are to be believed then Sagna will be playing RB next season, with Eboue playing in midfield.

Not a good idea IMO. The experience will probably do him a world of good, but the squad will be a little thin, as simmo said. I think he will get a few starts this season, enough not to let him go on loan.

Btw is Birmingham officially our feeder club now ?

prits, i don't think they're our feeder club, more a case that Bruce probably thinks if he can get a few more of our youngsters on loan, that he'll stand a good chance of signing 60% of them if he does... »»Arsene Knows««

Our squad is too thin to even contemplate this. Plus, I think Djourou has shown he has what it takes to stay at Arsenal without a loan spell.

Wings, that comment of mine about Birmingham being our feeder club was tongue in cheek ;).

Agee twice LD. Djourou looks awesome at CB and has shown he is more than capable of standing in at RB or in CM. I agree that he should stay because he's third choice ahead of Big Phill now, so he's bound to get some games, espically when King Kolo shoots off for 6 weeks. And who could forget THAT bit of skill against Reading...;-)

If Toure and Eboue go to ACN and Gallas and Big Phil get shot off, we still have Johan at CB, Sagna at RB or CB since Hoyte can play RB, we've still got Mattew Connolly in the reserves, James Dunne can also take part. (Nordtviet maybe???)

stukazufuss - Connolly has been sent on loan to Colchester, but O'Cearuill is back after a season's loan, I think. Nordtveit is just too soon, he will have to play regularly in the youth and reserve teams before even thinking of a 1st team place.

This must be false, we dont have a big enough squad to be letting players go left right and centre. We needed to buy this summer and instead we have sold alot of players, surely we cant be considering letting these two top class young swiss defenders leave. We need to buy at least 3-4 more players for next season.

Now I'm sure you guy's didn't think you were going to get away with last night performance with being slagged, no Gilberto/Fabregas and you do not look anywhere near as competent (couldn't bring myself to say "anywhere near as good") Da Silva looked off the pace as well

I think we got lucky their prits, he's signed for Citeh! Was never convinced about him, doesn't like to defend which is no good for us IMO. What did you think of your new striker?

goofy Drenthe has already decided on who he will be joining and i have serious doubts that his choice is Arsenal.

drenthe is not even a winger mate. We DONT need to be selling any more players if we do i will be very puzzled as to what wenger thinks he is doing. We need a striker, winger and maybe Appiah aswell.

Topspur, are you just saying that coz you didnt sign him (though to be fair, I did read a few posts on vital spurs which raised a few concerns about a dodgy knee)? Our new striker looks good, created a few chances, and generally looked sharp, but I would wait a while before judging him.

26/07/2007 19:01:00

Not at all prits, if we had signed him I would at least support him. But I was not convinced, he doesn't like to defend. And with an 18yr old fullback I would like someone who would be willing to give him some protection.

So who do you reckon will fill that slot? By popular choice, it seems to be Tarrabt. You will have an extremely young left side then. I think Jol seriously needs to sort out his summer spending, coz I think you are one short in defence (despite Kaboul), and one left mid-fielder.

26/07/2007 20:49:00

I think we will probably play bale their prits, I know he was playing as full back for Southampton. Their no sign of shifting out Lee, so that leaves us with 3 left backs. If we can keep King fit we should be ok. If you had a choice of 1 signing to push your side on, who would it be (Realistic signing)?

26/07/2007 21:04:00

Well, I'd say Drenthe. The kid had is promising, young, talented, would fit right into Arsenal, and we need to strengthen left mid-field, coz I feel we are one short there. Not 1st choice mind you, but back up to Rosicky/Hleb. That said, I will be happy with whoever Wenger signs.

Don't you feel your lacking a bit of experience? I know Hansen said you can't win league with kids, then M.U. promtly went out and won the league. But premier league has changed since then, theirs a lot more quality about than in those days

27/07/2007 02:49:00

Actually no. If you look at our 1st team, the experienced blokes are Lehmann, Gilberto, Toure, Gallas, Hleb, Rosicky. I think we've got a good mix of youth and experience. From an experience prespective, it would have been far better to hold on to Freddie or Henry, rather than sign someone experienced.

Have no argument with Lehmann (although I’m amazed he doesn't get sent off every month), Gilberto, Toure & Gallas. But I'm not convinced by Hleb & Rosicky, of course I don't see as much of them as you guy's. But they both strike me as being very inconsistent, 1 good game 1 bad one
