Eduardo Awaiting Arsenal Clearence

Arsene Wenger has revealed that Arsenal's big summer signing, Eduardo Da Silva, is yet to recieve a work permit from The Home Office.

Arsenal's initial attempts to gain Eduardo a work permit were rejected.

However, Arsene Wenger remains confident the Croatian international will get international clearence when his appeal is heard on August 2nd.

'We've an appeal hearing on 2 August for his work permit,' said Wenger.

'He has 50% national games for Croatia, which is a great achievement. He's played every game in the last year, so it'll be extremely close.'

'There are some signings in England who didn't play even one game for smaller countries than Croatia,' added Wenger.

'I'm optimistic that we have a reasonable chance.'

Anderson was granted a work permit at the end of last month despite having played just 6 times for Brazil U21 and twice for the national team. There would have to be something strange going on if Eduardo were not to be granted a permit.
Amos.
Wenger also said it is normal for it to be rejected the 1st time, coz they strictly apply the 75% rule and there is a good chance for it to be approved on appeal. The same happened to Nani as well, if I'm not wrong. I am not exactly concerned about this.

Isn't Nani Portuguese? In which case as an EC member nation I don't think he would need a work permit.
Amos.
Didn't Alex Song get a work permit on the grounds of being an "Exceptional Talent"? There's nothing to worry about, but I'm disapointed not to see him this weekend!
Rocky7
I think Song has dual nationality, France/Cameroon? there shouldn't be any problems with Eduardo getting a WP, United got one for Anderson without the 'exceptional talent' rule.

2 -1 to us any reports??

its a disgrace if he doesnt!

You're right Amos, it wasnt Nani. It was Andersen, for whom the application was rejected the 1st time (I think).

will eduardo still be able to play in the CL qualifyers without the work permit? Pardon my knowledge

Is the information given by the club correct that if Eduardo does not get a W/P then the deal could be off?
alwaysgunner
yes that would be part of all their deals for non EU players though its not just eduardo

Every time I hear about players having work permit troubles it makes me laugh, how much money are footballers putting into the coffers every tax year ? its ludicrous!
TR7
I would be most surprised and annoyed if Eduardo was not granted his work permit. This whole thing about him not being from a big enough league to satisfy the criteria - he can only score against who he is put up against, and so far hasnt done a bad job, being prolific in the Croatian league, and also scoring a neat goal against England in the qualifiers... »»Arsene Knows««

Well that would be a blow if it all came to nothing!

We are just keeping our fingers crossed for this exceptional talent to get the permit and help us score the goals and bring the glory together with RvP
