Keown Has A 'Reassuring Presence'

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has revealed why ex-Arsenal defender, Martin Keown, is back among the players at their London training ground.

Keown is back with the Gunners helping them prepare their young defenders for battle, Wenger explains why.

“Martin has been with me now for three or four months,”

“He is doing his coaching badge and he said to me he needs to go somewhere to have an experience. I said ‘listen come in, you can get the experience with us and see what's happening on a daily basis’. He can help us because he's an Arsenal man.'

“He has experience and can assist the young players,” said Wenger. “That's why I brought him in. I have a very young squad and I felt at some stage that the balance of the team needed a little bit more experience in the dressing room so they were not uncertain or insecure because we lost a game or two. He is a reassuring presence.”

Keown joins an old team mate in furthering his football career at Arsenal.

”I have Steve Bould with the youngsters already, these people know the culture of the Club and have been winners.

“We want them to get that culture into the young players and push them through. That's not only down to the manager because these people have direct access to the players every day and have time to spend with them.”
