'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Wenger To Spend

Arsene Wenger has been told the club are more than willing to splash the cash on players he identifies.

'It's all right playing in a fantastic stadium but you want to have the football on the field - that's where the real excitement is,' Manager Director Keith Edelman told the Mirror. 'There are ample funds if the manager wants to spend them to strengthen and develop the squad and we would encourage him to do so.

'We believe vehemently the product our customers come to see is the team.

'The club is on a very sound financial footing and anyone who looked at the annual accounts will know we had Ł70 million of cash in May.'
