Arsenal vs. Newcastle

Emirates Stadium

Arsenal V N'castle Preview

Arsenal fans and pundits will get a chance to see Arsene's new class of Carling Cup kids tonight as The Gunners welcome Newcaslte for the third round of the Carling Cup.

Despite facing a team Wenger considers to be one of the best in Europe when Arsenal played Sevilla, Newcaslt will pose a greater challenge to Arsenal. Why? Simply because they have the dispicable Sam Alladyce at the healm and he'll send his troops out to ruffle a few feathers.

The Geordies have had a good start to the season under Fat Sam. They're sitting 5th in the Premiership and have lost just one game. OK, that game was to one of the worst teams to have played in the Premiership (Derby), but The Toon bounced back from that defeat by beating West Ham 3-1 at home.

Arsenal's only setback came in the form of a 1-1 draw away to Blackburn. Arsenal have won all of the other 8 games they have played.

Recent form: P5 W5 D0 L0

Vital Quotes:

Fat Sam might be a dispicable person and might alledgedley be corrupt. but he is no fool. He knows that Arsene's young guns will pose a massive threat to his side's survival in the competition: 'It's nothing to do with age, it's to do with experience and if you look at the experience they have got, they are all well qualified now in Premier League football and cup football and a lot in European football.

'He is top of the league because of that at the moment, on the experience those young men have gained very, very quickly.

'He plays the kids every week - he plays (Cesc) Fabregas every week, so what's he? A kid.

'They have got lots of experience now and they have gained that experience from last year, getting right the way through to the Carling Cup final.

'This time, they should be better.'

Arsene Wenger confirmed that his policy this year will be the same as always, and explained his reasons: 'Our approach this season in the Carling Cup is the same as it has always been — give a chance to players who need games, give a chance to younger players who need to touch the top level and, of course, to win the games.

'It fits into our season very well because we just want to win the games and win the trophy. If you find a better team in our way then we find a better team but we will go out to win.

'Last season was fantastic and I was very proud of their run. We played in a convincing manner in every single game.

'I believe that where we are in the Champions League and the Premier League this season is down to that run.'

Arsenal Team News:

Manu Eboue is the only Arsenal player to return from injury. Many first team players will be rested, as usual.

Eduardo will get a start alongside Nicklas Bendtner up front, while Lassana Diarra will make his first start from the club. Fabianski will also make his Arsenal debut between the sticks.

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Song will play at centre back for the Guuners.

Arsenal squad in full:

2 Abou Diaby
6 Phillipe Senderos
8 Lassana Diarra
9 Eduardo
15 Denilson
17 Alexandre Song
21 Lukasz Fabianski
26 Nicklas Bendtner
27 Emmanuel Eboue
30 Armand Traore
31 Justin Hoyte
32 Theo Walcott
39 Henri Lansbury
40 Vito Mannone
41 Gavin Hoyte
42 Fran Merida

Player to watch: Eduardo Da Silva

The Arsenal new boy will get his first taste of Orcball when he lines up agaisnt Newcastle. I'm tipping the him to show the physical and mental strength to over-come it and shine for the Gunners.

The second Arsenal player to score his first hat trick for the club in a week? Nah, but I think he could come away with a brace.

Newcastle Team News:

Stephen Carr, Celestine Babayaro, Joey Barton, Damien Duff and Peter Ramage will be joined on the sidelines by Michael Owen and Claudio Cacapa.

Viduka took a knock during Newcastle's weekend win over West Ham, but he should be fit to face the Gunners. Emre is set to return after 2 weeks out.

Player to watch: Charles N'Zogbia

I've been a fan of the young Frenchman since he came on for Newcaslt to make his debut as an 18-year-old. He has power, pace, a lethal shot and a decent range of passing. What more could you want from a winger?

This season he is proving that he is indeed a class player. During Saturday's 3-1 win he bagged a goal and a two assists.

Ref Watch:

Coward, I mean Howard Webb will take control of Arsenal's first Carling Cup game since he bottled in furing the Carling Cup final last season. Luckily for him, Adebayor will not play.

Match Prediction:

2-1 Arsenal. The Gunners will show yet more mental strength and character by over coming another physical test.

ay sux where are you watching the game
Youngest in Charge
I'm at work, so I can only text-stream;, or ESPN Soccernet ( ) also has a decent Gamecast. Our stupid firewall blocks out p2p streaming, so my options are limited today. I couldn't find the game on Setanta to record on the pvr either...they were actually airing the Chelsea v. Rosenborg replay today instead for God knows what reason!
Yea i cant get the game. So i am watching a pretty poor ESPN gamecast. Looks like we are dominating the second half.
Newcastle has only managed one shot on goal in the game so far...I'd say we're dominating alright.
It looks like whoever gets the first goal will win.
By your theory gk, we just won....Bendtner!!!!!!
YYYYYEEEEEESSSSS!!!!!!!!!! Bendtner 1-0!!! Traore, crossed, flying Bendtner header and it's 1-0. Senderos has just cleared off the line 1 minute later!!!!!! It's exploding here!!! If you're in UK, put on Radio 5 live, it's on now.
get in Bendtner!!!!!
Reading 2 - Scousers 4. Torres hattrick. Never understood that fool Rafa not playing him last weekend. Oh well, we pulled out another 2 points on them.
YAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss *****kkkkk offffffffff fat sammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm you cant win the kidsssssssssssssssssssss ahhahaha Great goallllllllllll AW the geniussssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
hahahahaha!!!! Denilson!!!! 2-0!!!! GET IN!!!!!!!!! Stunning. Absolutely stunning!
sorry, too many exclamation marks there
denilson! you beauty!
not really...that was about the right amount actually
Im not in the UK so i cant get BBC LIVE 5 to work so it suxs. But 2-0 up is AMAZING!!
my espn gamecast radar shows denilson scores from outside the penalty box. nice to see a clip of this. youtube perhaps?
Thats Denilsons first for Arsenal if im not mistaken!!
all done. 2-0. Amazing game by the sounds of it. If you can watch highlights, apparently Denilson's goal is contender for goal of the month. We rock!
it was just inside the box - feed from Diaby
woahhh.. another win! haha.. hope nobody left early tonite! :)
damn it We won again ahhahaha what a time to score and kill fat samm ahhaha Denilson scored and is gonna sign his new deal with us love yaaaaaa AW
oh yeah!!!!!! when i look at the stats, shots and possession, it looks like a deserved victory! And both goals by teenagers! It's nice to be a gooner!
Thats 0-2 for the fat ******** at the Grove!!
Great win by the lads. They should be a good bet to go all the way and win the damn thing this time around. With the second string producing such performances, we should have enough cover and firepower to compete on all fronts.
please can somebody post a link to the goals? i'm suffering here, don't do this to me...
This kind of performance should really help our premiership campaign aswell now cause all the first-teamers have to keep on their toes to keep their place. A great win.
I've been watching Arsenel in the Carling Cup since 2004 and have seen most of the first team come through, Cesc, Van Persie, Senderos, Walcott etc etc. Couldn't get there tonight but hoping for a home draw next game. Wenger has brilliantly taken the least important competition and made it one of the most eagerly awaited by all Gooners. This is where we show off our future. This is where the kids get to strut their stuff - in an atmosphere of expectation but no pressure. Fantastic work by AW. I love the Carling Cup.
cambs gooner
i ditto cambs
cambs, you're right mate. Carling Cup was an unnecessary distraction before AW starting playing the kids. He single handedly saved it in the last couple of years. It goes to show the difference between Arsenal and Chelski. They get 20,000 turn up for a CL match, we sold out Emirates tonight for the Second Team! I recon a good portion of those who turned up aren't even die hard fans - it's an evening's entertainment - poeple know that whoever plays, it's going to be amazing football win, lose or draw.
I've just re-read my post and it makes me look like a newbie! Just wanted to say that I've been following the Gunners for 45 years and used to live in the Blackstock Road. My point is that this competition stirs my blood almost like no other - and that has been a recent event. All the accusations of AW disrespecting the competition - bolloc*s. He's used it as an inspirational tool for bringing on the second string. Anyone want to guess what that dressing room feels like tonight? Bendtner, if he doesn't believe his own press and ego, will be the Togonator's replacement for the African Nations Cup. Give it time young man. You have a great future at the greatest club of all. Don't get impatient and swap that for a regular berth at Birmingham, Villa or Fulham. Let David Bentley (who could now have been a regular member of this team with just a smidgeon more patience) be a warning to you - stuck at Blackburn. Oh - just one more thing. Gael Clichy and Armand Traore. Cashley Who?
cambs gooner
cambs gooner welcome to the great place called Vital Arsenal. 2-0!! NEXT!
What a wonderful win today. The future is red and white.
Not one of our preferred XI played today and we still beat a quality Premiership side that will probably finish in the top half of the table. And we thought we didnt have a deep enough squad.
martin jol is suggesting to the spuds board to buy Arsenal second team to replace their current squad. haha
What a fantastic start to the season lads! Chuffed, totally chuffed! The only downside to all our games this season, is that we have to wait at least 3 days until the next one. Taxi for Allardyce anyone?
this Denilson is great,he is like fabregas's twin brother they both ve great vision, great killing passes and now denilosn can score stunning goals just like fabregas, also i feel that bendtner is gonna be a great player for us just ve 2 be more patient and right u are flv i can't wait 2 watch arsenal play
get highlights at
any folks looking for highlights after all our games keep and handy and keep checking them, as the tv stations will take down footage shortly after it's uploaded as it's copyright material.
cheers jake
fran merida
arsene im a genius wenger says diarra was bought for 2 mill not 5 like reported which was excellent in the first place...
It is funny how the Carling Cup has gone from being a "who gives a ****" competition for us Gooners to a "wow, can't wait to see which young stud blows up this time around" sort of thing. The cup run last year was just amazing, and the Carling Cup final one of Arsenal's finest highlights since we last won the league. Hopefully this squad can go one step further this year. BTW, how did Theo look? I really hope he comes on good this year.
cheers jake... WOW... that was some goal by Denilson
Spartan Gooner
Haha what a win and fat sam is already making excuses about fatigue, stupid fat loser.
The average age 20, bloody hell just 20. Denni goal a carbon copy of Diaby goal on Saturday and Diaby looked fantastic. Theo starting to come on what a team and they are our second eleven, start to quake the Mighty Gunners are here.
And of course as he says, its all Wenger fault. My A**E. Thumped by the youngsters you moron. Nic for the beach on Saturday. Dudu on the right for Theo.
What's even funnier is that the average age of the starting XI on Saturday was 23. It's just frightening what Wenger has assembled, and the best could be yet to come.
Absoloutly *****in' brilliant. And who said we dont have strength in depth? It is a brilliant time to be a Gooner and with this team with the average age of 20 it could be for the next 10 years.
Ozi Gooner
we destroyed them! completely! ripped their hearts out!
awesome arsenal, cant wait to see the sportscenter to see the whole coverage
hey just wans say yous r ahven a great season and i think yous r the team for the premiership this year. i am a man city supporter and we r have a good start but i honestly hope between all the team that r going for the premiership title i hope its yous, yous play great football and fabregas great midfielder
dunne deal
Just saw the highlights. Unbelievable rocket from Denilson, we played some stunning football (as always) Arsene has made this competition all the more exciting because of his policy
Magpie calling here. Got to admit I was mighty impressed by your lot. Forget Ferguson, Wenger really is the best at rolling out the young talent from the production line. I can't remember the last team we were truly battered like that.
Blackpool away next please!
dunne deal... Thank you. I wish you guys also get a bit of UEFA Cup action next season... also do us a favour by netting some goals in ManU backyard :) All the best
BREAKING NEWS.... After watching the Arsenal match yesterday Sp*rs lost interest in PL... Rumours that they want to dominate something and they have choosed 'The Football League' for a change... mates wish them all the best
i am curious about Hoyte's defending in the game. he was up against Ameobi and N'Zogbia. it must be hard for Hoyte. i like Hoyte. he is pure Gunner inside.
Great win for the young lads! I also enjoy reading the press (for once) today when they compare SAF's kids to AW's. That squad at ManU cost them a fortune, while AW, who usually keeps transfer fees really confidential even after the deal's done, answered a reporter's question of Diaby's fee by saying "It's not as big as you might have seen in the reports. It's 2m ONLY." HILARIOUS!
