Sevilla V Arsenal Preview

Having already secured a place in the knock out stages of the Champions League, we can expect to see Arsene Wenger send out a weakened team to face Sevilla on Tuesday.

If Sevilla manage a victory over Arsenal then they will join the Gunners in the next round of the Champions League.

Despite players being rested and others suffering from injury, Arsene Wenger will still be keen to win the match - a result that would gaurentee Arsenal finish top of the group.

Both teams are capable of playing outstanding football, but neither team will want to lose this one. I think we can expect both teams to spend the majority of the first half trying to probe one another.

Vital Quotes:

Sevilla star Luis Fabiano believes his team can do the business and beat Arsenal when they clash tonight. Fabiano told Setnata Sports: 'I am currently in good form as I am scoring goals and I am hopeful I will continue against Arsenal at home.'

'It is an important game because we can reach the top of the group and make the dream we had in the summer come true.

'We are eager to forget the 3-0 defeat in London. Sevilla are limitless.

'It was our debut in the competition and they beat us. Today things have changed and I am convinced that we can win.

'Arsenal are still unbeaten this season but I would not be surprised if they lose at Estadio Sanchez-Pizjuan. These games are very difficult for our opponents and we have to put the pressure on them from the first minute.'

Arsene Wenger called for his team to stay focused and spoke of the advantages of finishing top of the group: 'We want to finish first, it gives you a little advantage in the draw and it gives you another advantage because it gives you the second game at home in the knockout stages, so we would like to take that advantage of course.

'We are also a team who are on a good run and we want to keep that going, and we know that is very, very important.

'I think it is possible to have a good result.

'We try to give our best in every game, I love to work with this team, they are really hungry and humble.

'They show that in every game and as long as we maintain these two qualities we have the chance to win the next game, which is what you want to achieve.'

Sevilla Team News:

Jose Angel Crespo could make his return after fracturing his cheekbone. Luis Fabiano has been passed fit after an ankle problem.

Player to watch: Luis Fabiano

The Brazilian is Sevilla's top scorer this season. With a new manager to impress, he'll want to be on the top of his game tonight, so Toure and Senderos will have to look lively to shut him out.

Arsenal Team News:

Arsene Wenger has made the changes his promised. Gallas and Adebayor are both rested and are likely to be replaced by Senderos and Bendtner.

Clichy has joined Hleb on the sidelines with a thigh injury, so expect to see Traore come in for him.

Flamini, Gilberto and Fabregas all return from injury, fatigue and suspension respectivley.

Player to watch: Cesc Fabregas

Although Sevilla will look to shut him out of the game, he'll put his usual gut-busting performance and shine. He always shines that bit more in the Champions League, and tonight will be no different.

Ref Watch:

Anyone?

Match Prediction:

As I said earlier, it'll be a tight game but I think Sevilla will just nick it. 2-1.

The ref is some Dutch bloke, I've never heard of him before but that can be a good thing in football, I mean everybody knows Graham Poll. I think we might lose to but Sevilla are in pretty shocking form at the moment so i'll go a 2-2 draw in an open game. I hope Dudu starts upfront.

Well i think Wenger said he will start Bendtner which i think is a good idea because he can now prove himself in a pretty tough game. We can't lose this game as i think we need to get 1st place in this group to avoid all the other 1st place teams in the round of 16....so hopefully it will be a draw.
AB_Arsenal
I just hope we don't lose because if we are group runners up we are going to face Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan or Porto (which would obviously be the preferred choice). Those may not be the definate group winners but I think its a fairly safe guess & to be honest we could do without facing the top teams straight away.

1-1 draw..

Even if we lose all we have to do is beat Steau at home and we still finish top.
Ozi Gooner
Ozi we are only 1 point ahead of Seville if we lose they go top and therefore we have to hope that they lose their last game and we win for us to come first, thats why its important not to lose today.
AB_Arsenal
Sweer AB, I had no idea up a bit late here in Oz land arent you? No work tomorow.
Ozi Gooner
Lol it is a bit late but i always have trouble getting to sleep, might have to get to sleep now if i'm going to wake up for the CL game tomorrow.
AB_Arsenal
A draw will be good enough for me. It will be interesting to see whether Wenger goes in with a 4-4-2, Dudu to support Bendtner, or a 4-5-1 which served us so well in the 2006 run. Gilberto might just start at CB, with Diarra at CM.
prits
How are you watching it AB? Stream? Im waiting to 8pm tomorrow and avoiding a computer all day at work so I can come home and watch it on ESPN.
Ozi Gooner
Yep i'm hoping there will be a stream that works otherwise it will be soccernet gamecast again :(
AB_Arsenal
Hey Ozi and AB, you've reminded me of all those early mornings getting up to watch SBS before dawn (the only enjoyable way to start a day at 4am). Are they showing Arsenal tomorrow or are they still favouring Man U and Liverpool matches?
JakeB
oh and espn gamecasts are the most painful way to follow a football match. try the overnight bbc on one of the AM radio stations (1026am from memory). online bbc radio doesn't work outside the uk due to licensing....
JakeB
might be 1224am actually....
JakeB
JB, they are favouring Manure here in India. :(. so it is sopcast for us too.
