This evening Arsenal takes on Burgenland XI at the Sonnenseestadion Ritzing stadium in Austria for our third game of the pre-season. The youthful Arsenal team will be looking to improve on a somewhat lackluster display in Hungary last week, where some of the young players failed to put out the required effort in my eyes.
As I understand it, the team we are playing will be made up of an assortment of Austrian players from different teams. All the players will be from the Burgenland region of eastern Austria, which is the least populated state of Austria with only around 300,000 inhabitants.
I haven`t heard a word out of Wenger`s mouth all week. All has been quiet from the Le Boss since he said he is looking to bring in a couple more players. This makes me think that he has an ace or two up his sleeve and is looking to get the transfers done.
Though he did comment after the Szombathelyi game on when we will see the main first teamers, "We should see them Wednesday against Stuttgart" he said.
If anyone knows anything about the team we will line up against tonight please do share, because I had absolutely no luck in my search.
Da da da da da!!
The Arsenal reserve team defeated Crawley Town back in England on Saturday by a score of 1 to 0, with Kieran Gibbs scoring the match winner. Nacer Barazite featured in that game so he is very unlikely to play apart in this match.
I believe we will see a very similar side to the one who played Szombathelyi Haladas almost a week ago. New additions Carlos Vela and Aaron Ramsey are sure to feature, and Jay Simpson and Jack Wilshere will be looking to continue with their outstanding pre-season showings. Johan Djourou might also feature because of the poor showing at centre half from the Hoyte brothers last week.
Francis Coquelin though, who impressed me very much in the last game, has suffered a thigh strain over the weekend and will be out of this game.
This is Theo Walcott`s season to shine in most people`s eyes, and he has shown glimpses of quality throughout this pre-season but has yet to sustain a threat in a match for a long period of time. The goal against Szombathelyi should boost his confidence and I expect him to use his blinding pace to frighten the Burgenland defense all match long.
We should be able to handle this team with considerable ease so I am going with a 4-0 win to The Arsenal, though I wouldn`t be surprised if we gave up a goal somehow.
