'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Arsenal vs. Bolton

Ashburton Grove

10/9/10

15:00

Arsenal v. Bolton

After the first tedious and costly international break of the new season, a wounded Arsenal returns to action against Bolton today. I don't want to dwell on the injury situation. I'm just glad proper football is back.

Also, there is no chance of snow and ice today. So all 14 of you Bolton supporters planning on making the trip south to the Grove today can come with the assurance that the match will go ahead as planned.

Vital Quotes:

Arsene had positive things to say about today's opponent.

'I believe Bolton have a good mixture of a direct game and football on the ground,' he said. 'They have kept their strong assets up front with Johan Elmander and Kevin Davies. Also they have good crossers of the ball with Martin Petrov and Chung-Young Lee on the flanks. They can be a very dangerous side because they have a good mixture of a technical game and a direct game.'

'We are a mixture of patience and the need to dictate the way we feel the game has to be played. So you have to adapt to what you have and make the changes slowly and I feel Owen has done that well.'

Arsenal Team News:

We've all heard about the injuries. So I'll just briefly go you a list of who is out.

Bendtner (groin), Frimpong (knee), Ramsey (broken leg), van Persie & Walcott (both ankle), Vermaelen (Achilles)

In better news Nasri and Denilson are back and will be included in the squad if necessary.

Predicted Starting XI: Almunia, Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Clichy, Song, Diaby, Cesc, Rosicky, Arshavin, Chamakh

Player to watch: Sebastian Squillaci

Arsene Wenger has spoke very highly of his compatriot. I have high hopes that Sebastian can break the curse the #18 kit seems to have on French centre backs.

Bolton Team News:

Jussi Jaaskelainen will sit out his first of three matches after being red carded for hitting Roger Johnson in late August. Adam Bogdan will make his first Premier League start in his place. Owen Coyle will also be without Sean Davis and possibly Ivan Klasnic.

Player to watch: Martin Petrov

I've always been impressed with Petrov, and I think he was not given a fair chance at Man City. He could be a handful for whichever Arsenal fullback he lines up against.

Match Facts & Stats

Arsenal have won their last eight league and cup games against Bolton

The Gunners are unbeaten in their last eight home league matches since losing 3-1 to Manchester United in January

Bolton and Newcastle are the only two Premier League sides to name the same starting line-up in their first three games this season

Ref Watch:

Youngster Stuart Attwell will be the head official for today's encounter.

Match Prediction:

I'm wary about this match. I don't believe it will be as simple as others think. I'll go with another scrappy 2-1 win for Arsenal. Chamakh and Cesc on the score sheet for the home side.

Next Fixtures:

15/9 (Wed) - Braga (h) - Champions League

18/9 (Sat) - Sunderland (a) - Premier League

Bring on the Real football! I'm very confident for this one, it's a good opposition but we're in the mood and unstoppable so 3-0 Chamakh, Cesc, Squillaci on debut ;) otherwise Vela late on as a hedge bet.
insider says
Never easy this one but I reckon a 2 goal margin win for us. Excited to see 'ToTo's debut today.
jess_farenesh
An all french back line if your squad prediction is true Sagna, Koscielny, Squillaci, Clichy.
NeoGunner
Last years comeback was brilliant but this one was even better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1wFjjhkRM4c&NR=1
gronedrone
Well i bet no one predicted that line up did they! It's good to see the boss has faith in the squad but i wonder what his reasoning behind that one was. Anybody want to take a guess?
insider says
looks like a few players are being rested for the CL, gibbs, eboue and jack starting
TPowell
great pass from jack there, a bit fortunate to go in to be fair
TPowell
What a comical ***** up for the bolton goal.. *****ing crap
Sajit
I'm modifying my prediction to 3-1 okay
insider says
Minus the *****-up by Kos, which was pretty shambolic i think he's been amazing... dominating the pen box on corners, cutting out passes on the floor and in the air and he got his first goal. It's still a learning process for the lad but he's doing good so i don't want to hear anybody slating him please. =)
insider says
Not slating him insider, its still early days for the lad.. The goal was due to multiple screw ups.. anyways second half is starting..so ill leave the analysis for later
Sajit
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooolll CHAMAKH CHAMAKH CHAMAKH!!!!!
insider says
Kevin Davies given full license by the ref to be a thug, sould have been sent off for that challenge on Kos. Basically headbutted him 5 secs after the ball had gone.
bowiecokemirror
impressive finish from song!
TPowell
OH MY GOD!!!!
insider says
Lol am i the only one that thought Vela was gonna try and chip the goalkeeper???
DBerg
How the ***** was that not a penalty!
DBerg
eboue needs to get up... by the way, if he got the ball its a corner, if he didn't its a pen. somehow they end up with the goal kick. the ref is having a poor game for both sides in all honesty
TPowell
"pericolosamente scarso", "una vergogna in nero", incredibilmente incapace". Just some of the adjectives used by the Italian commentator to describe one Stuart Atwell. I'd say he's just a ****. How Robinson, Davies and Muamba alltogether have a yellow I fail to understand. Disgraceful refereeing. Back to the lingo, I hope some of you speak Italian, they are just too good to translate.

D@rn you-know-what online, I missed 2 of the goals due to poor pictures!! :(
GoonerLou
manchester al-citeh, united, and spuds all drop points... chelski continue in their machine-like ways...
TPowell
I feel sorry for the opta guy who had to count all those passes. Fantastic result. hope Diaby is okay, and that build up to Velas goal was just beautiful. Happy days!
insider says
I was listening to the Argentina commentary.. a breath of fresh air compared to the english. Inteligent analysis, un-bias, and they know how to celebrate a goal ;P
insider says
agreed about Diaby, insider. it didn't appear to damage a joint, so hopefully it was just a bruised leg
TPowell
Coyle hasn't changed the Orcs, they're still playing Walrus-ball.
gronedrone
Beautiful win, nice variation in the goals aswell. Atwell was completely out of his depth, clearly fast tracking decent young refs is not the way to go!
iceman10
And nice to see the two spuds Garth Crooks and Les Ferdinand getting frustrated about the red card to Cahill. Even though we were 2-1 up when it happened they believe it changed the game.
gronedrone
3 players sent off against us in 4 games.. Nice and not so nice.. What it means is that there have been nasty tackles against us..
Sajit
Two feet off the ground from behind & very reckless, what are they complaining about? Chamakh was lucky that there was no serious contact. Their tackling today was disgusting and there should have been many more yellows. Zamora has his leg broken today - the refs really need to stamp this out now, its getting ridiculous.
insider says
Karl Henry was the man who broke it by the way - a man who should not have played considering his countless assaults on Joey Barton last round.
ptv-
I was going to make this comment after the last game but I felt it was too early. To be fair to the FA, we have seen an increased awareness of referees when it comes to reckless challenges, Joe Cole, Cahill and the Blackpool player (sowwy). I don't think this is a coincidence and we should be applauding the refs for getting this right. And lets hope the newfound application of the rules is permanent.
gronedrone
The worst tackle was the foul on Diaby, we are lucky abou's foot never planted. We could have been looking at another Eduardo incident there and Atwell never even blew for a foul.
iceman10
Expected to lose, but didnt think it would be by so many.
Muur
Fabregas was class today, theres no doubting his commitment to the team. There were problems with lack of understanding in defence in the first half which was to be expected as they have never played together before but that definitely improved in the second half. Wilshere also is looking better with every game.
bowiecokemirror
Can someone explain what Eboue did to earn his yellow card? Was he the nasty evil person who physically threw Davies so his head accidentally tapped against Kos?
smithdj74
Sublime football from the heavens...first our defensive midfielder chips the goalie in a two stroke move that any striker would be proud of then a 25 pass move for a wonderful 4th goal....MAGIC
anonymous
@gronedrone..dont think refs really doing enough about these mad tackles......they wait until these players do it 3-4 times or someone actually gets hurt b4 they even warn the player....not good
rovinella62spurs
I believe that Eboue was carded for complaining about Davies head but assault on Koscielny. Do we have a decent ref in the country?
