Match Preview: Spurs vs Arsenal

When the fixtures are release in June, almost every Gooner on the planet fast forwards to see at what date the first North London Derby of the season will be contested.

Maybe it's my Gooner glasses distorting the truth somewhat, but I'm of the opinion that the North London Derby is the single most hotly contested and passionate derby in the Premier League. Of course Mancini's millions may have distorted that somewhat over the past few years, but you won't find a more heated game anywhere else in the country.

And almost every match is highly entertaining.

This Sunday sees the first match up of the season, it's exciting, it's scarey, it's passion fueld, it's the NLD!

Vital Quotes:

'It's not like any other game," said Wenger. "It is for us an opportunity to continue our way back to a more ambitious position in the league.

"The fact that it is a derby makes it more difficult but it is more enjoyable.'

"It is a very important game, you know the next game is always the most important in your life. We do not try to play down its importance at all, I just think it's the same home or away - if you play well you win.'

'It is fantastic. Both sets of fans are up for it. We have done very well over the years but most important is to play football.'

Spurs Team News:

Tottenham will field some players, and we will all boo them, willing them to fail with every fibre in our being.

Player to watch: Emmanuel Adebayor

Hate him or really hate him, the man can play football. He's always liked scoring at the Lane, and apparently he quite likes scoring against Arsenal too.

Old players always score against their old clubs. We'll have to be very careful.

Arsenal Team News:

We travel to the dark side with only one fit centre back. Alex Song will more than likely to be the man to partner Per Mertesacker after Koscielny failed a fitness test and Vermaelen is still a couple of weeks away.

Player to watch: van Persie

In my humble opinion, RvP is amongst the finest strikers in world football. He makes things happen and has one of the most lethal left feet I've ever seen.

He's got goals in him. Let's hope they arrive on Sunday. And lots of 'em.

Match Facts & Stats

There's only one fact you need to know about this game. It's going to be white hot. You'd be a fool to miss it.

Match Prediction:

I can't .... I just can't ....

Next Fixtures:

I can't look past this Sunday. Nope. Not happening.

Erm ... yes ... right. Ok. Someone loves football a little too much.

Totally agree with you. It's the best derby in the Premier League by a country mile. Nice preview. I'll leave now before I get told to. @MikeBridgeHD

Should be a cracker. You are much better than some muppets on our blog think. Just hope it's a great game of football....oh, and we win of course!

Horny helen is some weirdo bloke that gets off on trying to turn other blokes on, freak is on the sp*rs site spaffing the same 'ooh so sexy' bollix. Even the halfwits on VS have sussed him out. Just the typical mentalist they have over there really.

By far the best Derby in the Prem. A "high scoring" Manc derby (or any other), would yiel 3 goals, four at most. A high scoring NL derby gives 8 or 9 goals and leaves both crossbars in urgent need of repair. In other derbys the players are too scared to attack, and normally just show their "passion" through fouls and thuggery. In the NL derby the play is generally fair (from both teams), but fast, total commitment, and a desperation from each team to outplay the other side. Even if I wasn't a fan of either side, I'd watch this with such envy,,

Well said THM. I think this is one thing that both Arsenal and Spurs can agree on, the NLD is the balls! And like you say, despite the hatred in the stands, the game is always played in good spirit. I can't remember the last time there was a nasty incident .... when Ian wright punched David Howell back in the early 90s perhaps?
Rocky7
So what are the predictions then fellas... I'm going with 3-1 Spurs. COYS!
Cape Town Spurs
I think its usually the best Derby in terms of ability and entertainment. Both teams usually forget how to defend in these games and both managers philosophy rightly or wrongly is to go for the jugular. Plus there's real bitterness once again with the addition of Adebayor into the mix replacing Arse Sol as the villain/hero.

I don't have a very good feeling about the game. Spurs are in good form, and our defensive team has not worked together long enough to be consistently solid. Song did have a very good game vs Olympiakos. The mid field will have to help out the defence a lot more, and I expect Benayoun will start, instead of Arshavin. It should be a good exciting game.

Hey Huddersfield, we have to learn to defend first before we can forget how to !!!!

Beats El Classico. Best derby game as a neutral anyway, the Manc derby is exciting but basically a clog fest (although that's improving now). In the likely event of a Spurs victory, this place is going to be like Helms Deep. *Grabs chips and beer*.
