Arsenal vs. Bolton

The Grove

14/04/07

Arsenal V Bolton

Bolton's visit to The Grove could be the decider for fourth place - if Arsenal manage to grab a victory over their Northern challengers.

Arsenal did look to have 4th tied up a few weeks ago and The Gunners even had their targets trained on third place. A 4-1 demolition at the hands of Liverpool put those hopes to bed.

But things have since got worse for Arsenal. A home defeat to West Ham and a draw away to Newcastle has now put Arsenal's Champions league qualification in jeopardy.

Fear not though, fellow Gooners. a 2 point lead, a game in hand and Bolton set to visit The Emirates tomorrow means that Arsenal's fate is still firmly in their hands.

Vital Quotes:

Arsene Wenger has stated that he is confident, while pointing out that Bolton will pose a threat: "It is a big game against a direct rival.

"They have good players and, especially, good strikers. They are a direct side and will use that.

"But we play at home, we know we can beat them and so we must just focus on playing well.

"We know [a Champions League place] is the minimum target we want to reach at the start of every season and it will be like that every year.

"You want to win every trophy you play for and to win the Champions League next year of course you have to be in it again."

Fat Sam is also confident his side can cause Arsenal some problems: 'We don't have the same fears we used to about playing at Arsenal but beating them would probably be one of our best results this season.

'There is an opportunity because they are struggling to score goals and hopefully we can take advantage.

'That would be absolutely terrific and we are more confident about playing at the Emirates Stadium.'

Arsenal Team News:

Tomas Rosicky has recovered from a virus after missing Arsenal's draw with Newcastle (let's hope he didn't pick it up in a Prague hotel!).

Rosicky's return means that Arsenal will only be missing 3 players tomorrow: Henry, Robin Van Persie and Theo walcott.

Player to watch: Adebayor

This is the kind of game Adebayor was brought for. It's all well and good having your Henry's and Van Persie's who can score amazing goals, but when Bolton come to town you know you need something different. Adebayor offers that.

Bolton Team News:

Bolton captain Kevin Nolan returns from a suspension.

Joey O'Brien and Quinton Fortune are both out while Tal Ben Haim faces a fitness test.

Player to watch: Anelka

Le Sulk has a fantastic record against his former teams this season. A brace against Arsenal saw Bolton run out 3-1 winners Oop North warlier in the season, followed by a brace against manchester City.

Ref Watch:

Rob Styles will be the bearer of the whistle on Saturday. He has refereed 3 arsenal games this season, handing out 1 red card (Gilberto) and 2 yellows (Clichy & Van Persie). In total he has given out 77 yellows and 4 reds. An average of 3.38 cards per game.

Match Prediction:

I'm feeling unusually confident about this game. Wenger has stated several times this week that he is confident of victory. I'm going for a hard fought 2-1 Arsenal win. Adebayor and Gilberto to grab Arsenal's goals, Kevin Nolan for The Orcs.

Next Fixture:

A home game against Man City is up next for Arsenal. The Gunners will face Le Mancs on Tuesday (19:45 KO). It's a game Arsenal should really win, but we should really have won a lot of games this season. It could prove to be a VERY important game if we lose tomorrow.

i fancy bolton here because i dont see us scoring! as shameful as it is to say, id take a draw tomorrow, and win our game in hand against man city next week
D4NNYT
I fancy us to do them again, they will be more interested in kicking us and defending, gallas will have anelka in his pocket. The 14th of April is gonna be a day to remember.
gunnerb
I want rosicky to score, it's always special when he scores, and this should something special if it's to save us from our crap spell.
Farhan
19-0 to the Gunners. Clichy to score 18 and an own goal off Alardyce's 85 chins.
Rocky7
Kevin Davies to celebrate the own goal by jumping on Fat Sam. Earthquake rocks London after they two crumble to the ground. They all end up looking like a huge pile of ****e when when others join in. Anelka refuses and sulks in the vicinity of the corner flag.
G4L
0-0 or 0-1 to Bolton.....i just cant see us scoring :(
AB_Arsenal
1 point from a possible 12,2 wins in 11 & a measly, feeble 6 goals from 11 fixtures.......Cant even put Wet Spam away on yer own lawn..!!No Henry means no Honey..!!No Honey means no Money...He he he..!!Transition my harris, try DECLINE..!!WAKE UP N SMELL THE COFFEE GONERS.......!!
chalky76
Bolton will pressure us from the start with long balls, freekicks & corners. If they score early, we would be in trouble. I thought some one mentioned that in average, we conceed a goal from every four defensive setpieces. Do you think Bolton can win at least four setpieces in the first 45 mins? I am afraid they can.
Joe_@**
Chalky still jigging with delight from your glory, glory night at the s*@thole?! lol, 3-0 Arsenal, Adebayor, Gallas, Rosicky.
iceman10

scrappy 1-0 i feel will do it, it will be a nervy encounter, but the win however it comes will get us back on track and set us up nicely for next week.

3-1 to the Arsenal. Adebayor, Fabregas and Aliadiadiadiadiadiadiadiere! I don't know why we don't start a chant for him to the tune of Supercalifragilisticexpialadotious, as it's just as awkward a word. What, it's not a real word? No way! prits
And Liverpool drew so we are now back to only trailing 2 points :)
AB_Arsenal

flv
Welcome afghenry's brother.....yes it was good to see Cesc score today and its about time lets hope he can get a few more because we will need them before this season ends.
AB_Arsenal
Sorry*senior!
flv
beautiful day. 25 degrees, 3 points, 2 goals from the midfield... can it be better? (c'mon Wigan)
G4L
The taxman knocking on the door to tell me I'd paid too much tax and paying me the overpaid balance in bottles of Super Bock would make the day slightly better G4L but I guess 25, 3 and 2 is good enough for me 8-)
flv
great win 2day and i think we ll secure third spot but adebayor is back to the crappy ade who came last season and did u see diaby push the beast so he could take the ball and he wasted a very easy oppurtunity...
princeoflove909
Yeah AB. Lets all hope this continues till the rest of the season. Actually, I hope Cesc gets a few more, for the number of shots he's had on goal this season. We created a few chances as always, so things are not so dire now, with some players taking the chances.
prits
Good overall performance, they deserve the credit although being 1-0 down once again...Great to see Fab on the score sheet at last...and while Hleb did actually play pretty well today, I thought Rosicky and Clichy along with Fab were magnificent...3rd place is still within reach...:)
jess_farenesh
and the spuds have dropped a few places
fran merida
also if they dont win tomorrow and we beat mancity and then turn them over on saturday it will end their season....i think let
fran merida

49ers
What a day, the game was great the atmosphere was electric, that was far better than I can ever remember highbury and thats the bottom line.
gunnerb
You dont do anything easy nowadays, do you lads? Thanks for doing Bolton, Can you do Tittenham Crapspur for us next week aswell, Cheers
weeman john
This was Fabregas's game, he picked it up and strangked the ******** life out of it. Clichy, Hleb, Gilberto and Tommy Gun all top too. We really should have scored more though. My only real moan is Baptista, what the ***** was he doing, Diaby was in on goal and Baptista was miles offside, he *****ed that up for Diaby. Match report tomorrow, now there's a little too much Guinness in me.
Little Dutch
were'z chalky talk now b.tch you have a stupid habit of swallowing your words after nasty comments so welcome back b4 he next game
